Lee Yi Kyung On Whether He Would Return For A 3rd Season Of 'Welcome To Waikiki'

JTBC’s “Welcome to Waikiki 2” aired its finale on May 14. Though the ratings were lower than desirable, remaining largely in the mid-1 percent range throughout its 16-episode run, there have still been calls from viewers for a third season.

Lee Yi Kyung was the only main cast member who reprised his role in season two, and when asked about the possibility of returning to the show were it to be renewed, he said, “I’d like it if there were a third and fourth season. There’s no reason for me not to join, and I’d like it if the cast stayed the same.”

He added that the cast hasn’t spoken much about the possibility of a new season. “Then again, it’s not like the season one cast discussed there being a second season, either.”

Comparing season one and season two, Lee Yi Kyung said, “I didn’t do as many costumes in season two. In a way, season one was really taxing physically. But season two was mentally exhausting.”

“It’s the same in the military. After a hard day of training, you’re physically exhausted, so mentally, it’s peaceful. But in season two, I was physically comfortable. Everything was being compared to season one, so there was a lot running through my head. If I had been spending a lot of time getting makeup and costumes done, I wouldn’t have had those kinds of thoughts.”
