Choi Il Hwa's Agency Clarifies Reports Of His Return With New Drama + KBS Denies Involvement
There have been mixed reports concerning actor Choi Il Hwa’s return to the industry.
In February 2018, Choi Il Hwa came forward and admitted to being guilty of sexual harassment. Following the news, he stepped down from various projects and roles.
On May 28, production company Echo Human Issue Korea stated that the actor will be returning to the industry with the upcoming KBS two-part drama “My Name Is Trot” (literal title) which is scheduled to start filming in September and air later in the year.
Echo Human Issue Korea stated, “Any producer knows that good actors are needed to make a good drama. We couldn’t ignore a valuable actor like Choi Il Hwa, and he fits very well with the current scenario.” The company continued, “He is an actor with the image we were looking for, so we contacted him through his manager. As he has decided to appear in the drama after much consideration, ‘My Name Is Trot’ and Choi Il Hwa will go together until the end. No matter what happens, he will not be edited out.”
In response to the news, the actor’s agency clarified, “It is true that he received a love call from the production company, but the agency and actor both consider it a priority for him to self-reflect at this time.”
KBS also denied that the drama will air on the broadcasting station, commenting, “We have never even heard of the drama before. It is a project that has never been discussed.”
