Popular 1994 Horror Drama "M" To Get A Reboot
Famous horror drama “M” will be rebooted for the first time in 26 years!
According to a report by Star News on June 4, drama production company Super Moon Pictures recently signed a format contract with writer Lee Hong Koo of “M” and began producing the remake. The working title is “M2020.”
“M,” a 10-episode delivery special mini-series broadcast on MBC in 1994, became a large topic of conversation due to aspects such as its storyline that involved abortion and its special effects, which included the green eyes of main character Park Ma Ri/Kim Joo Ri who was played by actress Shim Eun Ha. Its highest viewership rating was a whopping 50 percent and the average viewership rating was 38.6 percent.
Shim Eun Ha, who debuted in 1993, rose to fame in 1994 after MBC dramas “The Last Match” and “M.” Her green eyes and evil M voice remain in the memory of drama lovers even decades later. In 2005, MBC tried to produce “M2” but it fell through.
Super Moon Pictures is scheduled to start filming in 2020 after deciding the cast. Lee Hong Koo, the writer of the original “M,” will participate in the “M” reboot as a creator.
Shin In Soo, the CEO of Super Moon Pictures, said, “We plan to keep the original mood of ‘M’ yet reinterpret it for modern times. For the next female star, we will cast an actress with a sense of mystery who could be called the next Shim Eun Ha, and we will consider rookie actresses.”
The broadcast network for the drama is still undetermined.
