Korean Remake Of "Designated Survivor" Shares First Script Reading With Ji Jin Hee, Kang Han Na, And More
tvN’s upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama, “60 Days, Designated Survivor” (literal title), has shared photos and details from its first script reading.
The drama is a Korean remake of the American TV series “Designated Survivor,” which is about what happens when an inexperienced politician ends up becoming the President of the United States after an explosion kills the former president and everyone else in the presidential line of succession.
The tvN remake stars an impressive cast, including Ji Jin Hee, who has been cast as Park Mu Jin, the head of the Ministry of Environment. He is the “designated survivor” who ends up becoming the acting president of the Republic of Korea after a sudden terrorist attack on the National Assembly. He has 60 days as acting president to find out the truth behind the terrorist attack and protect both his family and the country.
Also part of the cast are Heo Joon Ho, Kang Han Na, Bae Jong Ok, Kim Gyu Ri, Son Seok Gu, Choi Yoon Young, Choi Jae Sung, Lee Moo Saeng, and Kim Joo Heon. The first script reading took place in the winter, but the actors were said to have lit up the room with their passion for the project.
Before the reading, director Yoo Jong Sun said, “This is a project that we’ve been preparing for with a lot of love. Because I’ve waited so long for this moment, my heart is beating fast. We put our heart and soul into casting the best actors, and so many great ones have gathered here today. I will do my best to bring out the best in each of you.”
Writer Kim Tae Hee said, “I have a lot of pride and affection in the cast. I will work hard so that I don’t bring any of you down.”
Ji Jin Hee represented the actors when he said, “We make three promises: we will work hard, we won’t be late, and we will not create a bad atmosphere on set.”
Heo Joon Ho plays Han Joo Seung, the chief presidential secretary who guides the inexperienced acting president as he navigates a job for which he was unprepared. Kang Han Na plays Han Na Kyung, an agent of the National Intelligence Service task force investigating the terrorist attack on the National Assembly. Bae Jong Ok plays the experienced politician Yoon Chan Kyung, who is the leader of the opposition party.
Kim Gyu Ri plays Park Mu Jin’s wife, a human rights lawyer named Choi Kang Yeon. Son Seok Gu plays Cha Young Jin, a former political science professor and the chief presidential secretary of the previous administration. Choi Yoon Young plays Jung Soo Jung, a policy aide at the Ministry of Environment, Choi Jae Sung plays Lee Kwan Mook, th chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, and Kim Joo Heon plays Jung Han Mo, the chief of the National Intelligence Service.
After the script reading, the production staff stated, “The actors gave life to the script and dialogue that we had taken such time perfecting, and the drama was entertaining to watch even with this amount of practice. The acting was on a different scale. We will do our best to prepare for the first broadcast in three weeks, not only for fans of the original but to satisfy all viewers. Please look forward to the remake.”
“60 Days, Designated Survivor” is scheduled to premiere on July 1 at 9:30 p.m. KST, after the end of “Abyss.”
