7 People Arrested For Spreading False Rumors Of Female Celebs Being In Jung Joon Young's Hidden Camera Footage

Seven people have been arrested for posting and spreading rumors of female celebrities being victims of Jung Joon Young’s hidden camera footage.

Previously, names of several female celebrities were brought up on online communities in rumors claiming that they were victims of Jung Joon Young’s hidden camera footage. However, SBS funE reporter Kang Kyung Yoon shut down the rumors, explaining that the celebrities mentioned had “absolutely no relation” to the chatroom.

On June 12, Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency arrested six people and a person hereafter referred to as “A” (aged 26) on the suspicion of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communication Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation of character). The indictment of a U.S. citizen under the same suspicion was dropped.

According to the police, the seven people are under suspicion of posting false information about actresses and female idol group members appearing in Jung Joon Young’s hidden camera footage on various online communities including Ilbe and DC Inside in March.

The police confirmed the circulation of the false information on the internet communities, and they tracked the IP addresses of the posts down to seven individuals. These individuals were men between the ages of 19 through 38, and among the suspects, three were college students and two did not have any specific jobs.

The investigation revealed that “A” and the others formed their posts about the actresses being victims solely on the basis that the actresses had filmed variety shows or music videos with Jung Joon Young in the past. The posts about the female idols were written without any evidence.

Furthermore, the suspects confessed during the police investigation that they had found the rumor on social media and other websites and wrote and spread the posts for personal amusement.

A source from the police stated, “In the case of sharing information that insults or defames another person, a simple distributor can be punished for defamation even if they are not the original distributor.”
