Ahn Bo Hyun Shares Behind-The-Scenes Stories From The Set Of "Her Private Life"
Recently, actor Ahn Bo Hyun sat down for an interview to talk about his most recent drama, tvN’s “Her Private Life.”
“Her Private Life” stars Park Min Young as Sung Duk Mi, a polished gallery curator who leads a secret life as an idol fangirl, and Kim Jae Wook as Ryan Gold, her boss who finds out about her double life. Ahn Bo Hyun appears in the drama as Nam Eun Gi, Sung Duk Mi’s childhood friend and a former Olympic silver medalist in judo.
About getting in shape for the role, Ahn Bo Hyun said, “Because he’s a former judo medalist, I thought that the character should have a noticeable physique. Even when filming ended at dawn, I would always exercise. There is a difference in my body between the first and last episodes. I’d gained around 7 kilograms (15 pounds) in Episode 1, but by the end I’d lost around 5 kilograms (11 pounds). If I’d had more time, I could’ve built my body better, so I regret that a little bit.”
Ahn Bo Hyun also talked about filming with the child actor Jung Si Yool. “It was the greatest bromance,” he said, laughing. “He still knows me only as ‘the judo chief.’ There was a scene where we had to roll forwards and to the side, and because it was fun and new, we put in a lot of those moves. I thought he wouldn’t be able to do it because he’s so young, but he did it every time. When I hugged him at the end, that was improvised.”
Ahn Bo Hyun added that the entire cast had had great chemistry and that the atmosphere on set was great. He said, “We put in a lot of improvised moments in ‘Her Private Life.’ A lot of the laughter in the drama was real laughter. The atmosphere on set was good. Park Min Young, the rom-com queen, was particularly good at improvising. Park Jin Joo was also really good. The two of them could probably improvise the whole thing without any scripted lines. I didn’t have a lot of scenes with Kim Jae Wook. Because he did so many scary roles in other projects, I thought he would be hard to approach, but it was the complete opposite. He takes care of the people around him, and gives a lot of advice. When I first met Park Min Young, she told me to stop speaking formally to her because we were playing characters who had been friends for 33 years.”
He ended the interview by thanking the viewers, the cast, and crew. “[My character] got a lot of hate, but also a lot of love,” he said. “I sincerely thank the other actors, the writer, and the director, who helped me bring Eun Gi to life. I spent a warm three months thanks to them.”
