Watch: Jeon Somi On Being Last I.O.I Member To Debut + Dances To BLACKPINK, ITZY, Taemin, And More
On the June 18 broadcast of JTBC’s “Idol Room,” Jeon Somi appeared as a guest.
Jeon Somi debuted with I.O.I in 2016 after finishing in first place on the first season of “Produce 101.”
After three years, the singer at last made her solo debut on June 13 with her first single “Birthday.” On why it took her so long to debut as a solo artist, Jeon Somi said, “I’ve debuted four times now: with I.O.I in 2016, Unnies in 2017, Girls Next Door in 2017, and as a solo artist in 2019.”
She added, “I was the last of the 11 I.O.I members to debut. Honestly, it was hard, but I hung in there.”
Jeon Somi revealed that when her solo debut was finally confirmed, the I.O.I members all congratulated her. “Doyeon was the first I.O.I member to contact me [after the news about my solo debut]. She told me to put all of my charms that have been held back for three years on full display.”
On working with Teddy at her new agency, The Black Label, Jeon Somi said, “I’m young, so I didn’t know exactly what Teddy had done in the past. I didn’t know him, but I had always liked and respected him. When I met him in person, he was very cool and he was a talented songwriter.”
The singer then took on a dance challenge to see how quickly she could pick up choreography just from watching. The MCs tested her ability with “Solo” by BLACKPINK’s Jennie and “Boy With Luv” by BTS.
The MCs also challenged Jeon Somi to see how many random K-pop dances she could cover. She danced to Chungha’s “Gotta Go,” Weki Meki’s “Picky Picky,” BLACKPINK’s “Kill This Love,” TWICE’s “Dance the Night Away,” ITZY’s “Dalla,” and Taemin’s “Move.”
