The Most Unexpected Beauty Tips From Korean Celebs
Korean celebrities are known all over the world for their enviable complexions. Dewy, clear skin and natural-looking makeup are both hallmarks of the Korean beauty scene — and stars will go to some extreme lengths to make sure that their look is up to par. Here, in no particular order, are the craziest beauty tips we’ve seen yet!
ASTRO’s Rocky and Sanha
The youngest members of ASTRO have some pretty unusual cleansing routines, to say the least. Rocky says that the secret to his skincare is rinsing with contact lens solution (yes, like the stuff that you use to sanitize your lenses). He credits the tip to his mom, saying that she is his main source of beauty advice. This is one tip that you might want to leave to Rocky, because even though it’s tempting if it means achieving his flawless look, contact lens solution contains a lot of chemicals that could irritate the skin.
Sanha, on the other hand, prefers to cleanse his face with a mixture of water and vinegar. Vinegar is fairly acidic stuff and can leave a pretty pungent smell lingering on the skin, so you might want to be careful with this one as well.
Jun Ji Hyun
Actress Jun Ji Hyun of “My Love From the Star” fame has another food-related skincare tip: she creates her own face masks using toner, lemon juice, and wine. She says that she mixes all three together and soaks paper towels in the resulting mixture, applying these solution-soaked sheets to her face as a DIY mask. Again, these are acidic products that can be irritating to sensitive skin, so that’s definitely something to keep in mind if you’re thinking about trying this one at home.
MOMOLAND’s JooE
Singer JooE of MOMOLAND says that nose contouring is a very important part of her beauty routine, and she has a special tool she uses to achieve her snatched look: a fork! She uses the space between the tines of the fork to guide her brush and ensure that her contour is perfectly straight. This one looks like it may take a bit of practice to get right, but hey…if it works, it works! Just make sure not to poke yourself in the eye while you’re at it (if you’re not as clumsy as I am, this shouldn’t be an issue).
Rainbow’s Jisook
Continuing with the cutlery theme, former Rainbow member Jisook has a unique way of spreading her foundation: she says that when she’s forgotten her makeup spatula, she likes to use a plastic knife as a replacement! She says that the knife spreads the foundation in very thin layers, creating the your-skin-but-better look and keeps the product from gunking up on the skin. If you’re going to try this one, follow Jisook’s lead and use only the back of the knife on your face to avoid any unfortunate accidents.

EXID’s Hyelin
The lucky Hyelin has been blessed with gorgeous skin since birth, according to her fellow EXID members. (Trust me, I’m jealous too.) She says that her only skincare step is to apply plain Vaseline to her face when it’s dry in the winter. If you’re as fortunate as Hyelin you might be able to get away with this super-minimal routine, but Vaseline can be pore-clogging for some,so you might want to tread lightly with this one.
Song Hye Kyo
Actress Song Hye Kyo may be 37 years old, but you’d never be able to tell by looking at her. She’s been the ambassador for several beauty brands over the course of her career (including skincare labels Sulwhasoo and Laneige), so of course her complexion is flawless. Her secret skincare tip? Using milk as the occasional face wash. The enzymes in milk can help to dissolve dead skin cells, revealing glowing skin much like Song Hye Kyo’s. BRB, I’m sprinting to my fridge right now!
