Kang Ji Hwan's Agency Terminates His Contract
Kang Ji Hwan’s agency, Huayi Brothers Korea, has terminated their exclusive contract with the actor after he admitted to committing sexual assault against two female staff members.
Here is the agency’s full statement, issued on July 16:
Hello, this is Huayi Brothers Korea.
We signed a contract with Kang Ji Hwan in May 2019 on the basis of trust, but as a result of an unexpected, disgraceful event, that trust has crumbled.
Following, we are unable to continue our exclusive contract [with Kang Ji Hwan] and have decided to terminate our contract with him.
We will strive for improvement and do our best to prevent the same from happening in the future through thorough management of our artists.
Once again, we apologize to everyone for causing concern.
Previously, on the evening of July 9, the actor was apprehended at his home in Gwangju for suspicions of quasi-rape against two staff members who had returned to his home for further drinks after a dinner with agency employees.
One of the victims said in her statement to police that she woke up to find the actor attempting to sexually assault the woman next to her. She told the police that her clothes were in severe disarray, leading her to believe that she had also been a victim of sexual assault.
July 15, Kang Ji Hwan apologized and admitted to all charges.
Meanwhile, TV Chosun has announced that Seo Ji Suk will be taking over Kang Ji Hwan’s role in “Joseon Survival.”
