JYP Entertainment Takes Legal Action Against Online Harassment Of 2PM Members
On July 31, JYP Entertainment announced that they are taking legal action against invasions of privacy and other forms of online harassment perpetrated against the members of 2PM.
The statement reads:
Hello, this is JYP Entertainment. We sincerely thank the fans who love and support 2PM.
Last year, we put out a warning about spamming and harassing the members’ personal social media accounts. Despite this, people have continued to try and hack into their accounts and have left them malicious spam messages day and night. This is a growing problem not only for the members but also for their families. The members and their families are receiving considerable mental and physical stress from this.
Based on evidence we have collected, we are currently taking steps to file a formal complaint in order to seek the full penalty of law.
At the beginning of this year, we filed a criminal complaint after collecting evidence that showed the members being victimized. However, a formal punishment was not carried out because it is difficult to collect evidence of illegal activities that occur on social media. But as direct warnings and announcements proved ineffective, and the harassers kept changing their accounts in order to avoid the law, we judged that such behavior needs strong legal punishment. We have consulted an expert law firm and a lawyer experienced in the field to consider various approaches, and we have quietly collected evidence. We have officially filed the criminal complaint based on this evidence, so now we can let the fans know the truth of what has been happening.
We will issue a strong legal response to any invasions of privacy and other online harassment of our artists. In order to protect our artists, we will not overlook such behavior in the future. Thank you.
Earlier this month, 2PM’s Taecyeon posted on Twitter several screenshots of malicious comments that had been sent to 2PM members and asked fans to keep an eye out for similar comments.
