Super Junior's Kim Heechul Talks About How Privacy Invasions Changed His Lifestyle

Super Junior’s Kim Heechul spoke about the lack of privacy in his life as a celebrity.

On the August 4 episode of Sky Drama’s “Why Are You At My House” (literal title), the cast visited Kim Heechul’s home.

As the cast members walked around his home, Kim Heechul was visibly nervous about his curtains being opened. He said, “I don’t like the sunlight” before confessing that he’s scared of opening the curtains due to multiple violations of privacy he’s endured in the past.

The Super Junior member also revealed he has never gone on an overseas trip with a girlfriend. He explained, “When I buy a plane ticket, the fans know when I depart. I received a lot of stress in the past, so I changed the plane ticket overseas, but they still knew everything. I’ve never used a personal email, and I’m scared of opening the curtains.”

Kim Heechul then said that rather than homes with a good view, he prefers homes with no view when searching for a house, and he added that he spends wholesome, lonely days watching Chinese dramas with his dog Kibok. Before visiting the singer’s home, MC DinDin had joked that he would ruin his home, but after hearing Kim Heechul’s stories, DinDin said, “I didn’t know he lived in a lonely way like this. You’re sitting alone in a nice home like this and watching Chinese dramas? My heart hurts so much.”

Kim Heechul debuted in 2005 as a member of Super Junior and quickly rose to fame. Along with this, however, followed pain and multiple instances of his privacy being invaded. Despite all of this, the idol stated that he doesn’t regret becoming a celebrity.

“When I was young, it was annoying and I didn’t like it,” said Kim Heechul. “But if you think about it optimistically, there isn’t a job in this world that isn’t difficult.” He concluded that if he has children in the future, he wants to appear on a variety show with them to make memories together.
