2 TV Writers Slapped With Fines After Spreading Rumor About PD Na Young Suk And Jung Yu Mi Having Affair
Two television writers and a company employee have been slapped with fines after writing and spreading a rumor that PD Na Young Suk and actress Jung Yu Mi were having an affair.
According to legal sources on August 17, the two writers each received a fine of 3 million won (approximately $2,500), and the company employee was fined with 2 million won (approximately $1,700).
The judge presiding over the case said, “[The three defendants], after hearing the rumors in broadcast circles, sent the rumors to acquaintances for fun. It wasn’t out of any animosity for PD Na.”
The judge continued, “The actions taken [by the defendants] appear to have the purpose of mocking and defaming PD Na [and Jung Yu Mi]. The language used is not light, and there is no reason to believe that the rumors are true.”
The rumor was initially created last October, after which PD Na Young Suk and Jung Yu Mi promptly sued for defamation.
