Watch: Kim Jong Kook's Father Gets Emotional While Remembering Past Hardships
Kim Jong Kook’s father opened up about his past on SBS’s “My Ugly Duckling.”
On the August 18 broadcast of the show, Kim Jong Kook and his father took a trip to Vancouver. After doing some sight-seeing, they sat down for a meal at a seafood restaurant.
While they were waiting for their food, they began to talk about the past. Kim Jong Kook spoke about how he found his former frugal lifestyle to be a given, as his father had said before how difficult his life had been when he was younger.
His father then mentioned the period of hardship he experienced while living in the countryside. He stated, “Back then, my mother raised eight children without a husband.”
Kim Jong Kook carefully asked, “Didn’t you say that your youngest sibling passed away? Was it really that bad, to the extent that they died from hunger?”
His father replied, “It was like that when we were young. When my mother drank, she would always bring up the youngest,” and ultimately began to shed tears.
Upon seeing his father cry, Kim Jong Kook said, “This is my first time seeing my father like this.” He also started to get emotional as he apologized to his father for making him think of hard times.
