Watch: Jun So Min Helps Her Grandfather Reconnect With His First Love In Teasers For Upcoming Chuseok Drama Special
KBS’s upcoming Chuseok drama special “Birthday Letter” (literal title) has released new teasers!
“Birthday Letter” tells the story of an old man named Kim Mu Gil who receives a birthday card from his unforgettable first love and returns to his memories from Hiroshima in 1945. It sheds new light on the painful lives of the youth at the time who experienced the Japanese occupation of Korea, Korea’s liberation, and the Korean War. Jun So Min plays Kim Jae Yeon, a webtoon artist and the granddaughter of Kim Mu Gil.
In the first teaser, Kim Mu Gil endures forced labor in Hiroshima during Japan’s occupation of Korea. A woman narrates, “Whatever happens, make sure to return alive.” Though he promises to come back, the screen suddenly turns white. He recites, “It’s a bomb, it’s a bomb,” and repeatedly calls for his first love Yeo Il Ae, who also shouts, “Mu Gil!”
The second teaser features Jun So Min as Kim Jae Yeon, who retrieves a letter from the mailbox addressed to her grandfather. She asks her elderly grandfather, “Do you know someone named Yeo Il Ae?” and later questions, “You want me to go?” As she asks for Yeo Il Ae, the clip flashes back to 1945. After Kim Mu Gil finds Yeo Il Ae, he happily comments, “Do you know how long I’ve been searching for you?” She responds, “Don’t come back.” Though he intends to reunite with her, the screen flashes to white again before he finally comments, “I’ll come back every day.”
“Birthday Letter” will premiere on September 11 at 10 p.m. KST.
