Watch: Ji Chang Wook And Won Jin Ah Get Close While Adapting To Life 20 Years In The Future In "Melting Me Softly" Highlight Clip
tvN has unveiled an exciting sneak peek of its upcoming drama “Melting Me Softly”!
“Melting Me Softly” is a new romantic comedy about a man and a woman who participate in a project to be frozen for 24 hours—but ultimately wake up 20 years later due to a mysterious scheme. After waking up, the two experience a dangerous side effect that requires them to maintain a core body temperature of 33 degrees Celsius (approximately 91.4 degrees Fahrenheit) in order to survive. Unfortunately, however, they also find their hearts warming up from romantic attraction, putting them in an incredibly sticky situation.
The newly released highlight clip begins by introducing the lead character Ma Dong Chan (played by Ji Chang Wook), a highly successful producing director (PD) who can make a hit out of any variety show he produces. As he prepares to be frozen for what he thinks will be a day, he says in voice-over, “This will become legend. Let’s create our own record of that history.” The video then shows Ma Dong Chan frozen alongside Go Mi Ran (played by Won Jin Ah), who works part-time as a test subject for his hit variety show “Infinite Experiment Heaven.”
However, as the caption announces, “They thought it would be a day… but they woke up 20 years later!” Soaked and extremely confused, Ma Dong Chan wanders the streets of Seoul looking lost before noticing a sign that says 2019 and wondering, “How did we wake up 20 years later?” Elsewhere, Go Mi Ran is similarly shocked by the date, and she exclaims, “2019?!”
In the next scene, Ma Dong Chan looks bewildered as a middle-aged man he doesn’t recognize (played by Im Won Hee) bawls his eyes out upon seeing him. The man tearfully tells him, “It’s me, Son Hyun Ki,” and only then does Ma Dong Chan realize that he’s looking at his former assistant director (the 1999 version of whom is played by FTISLAND’s Lee Hong Ki).
A furious Go Mi Ran later slaps Ma Dong Chan as she cries out, “Give me my 20 years back! Take responsibility for the life I lost!” After calming down considerably, she tells him, “If I hadn’t been frozen for 20 years, I’d probably be with a really cool guy.” Ma Dong Chan scoffs in response, “Wouldn’t you be more likely to meet a really weird guy than a really cool guy?”
Ma Dong Chan then encounters his first love Na Ha Young (played by Yoon Se Ah), who is now 20 years older than when he last saw her. She asks him nervously, “Do you still see me as a woman?” Go Mi Ran is similarly reunited with her old friends, who exclaim in surprise, “You haven’t aged even a bit! You’re exactly the same!” Go Mi Ran responds, “Yeah, I was frozen in a freezer, okay?!”
Things take a darker turn in the next scene, as the caption warns, “The beginning of a heartwarming romance, in which their lives fall in danger if their temperatures rise.” Ma Dong Chan rushes into the emergency room with an unconscious Go Mi Ran in his arms and shoos the doctor away, insisting, “I told you to stop! I’ll take care of it!”
He later calls Go Mi Ran and asks her gently, “Are you ill at all? Be careful not to get overheated.” The dynamic between the two characters changes considerably, and Go Mi Ran complains in voice-over, “What’s with this guy, anyway? I can’t kill him, I can’t let him live.”
The video ends with Go Mi Ran happily boasting about all of the exciting features on her new phone before suddenly looking up at Ma Dong Chan and realizing just how close they are.
“Melting Me Softly” premieres on September 28 at 9 p.m. KST and will be available with English subtitles on Viki.
