Lee Seung Gi, Suzy, And More Discuss High Budget For 'Vagabond' And Goal To Break 30 Percent Viewership Ratings

The cast of SBS’s “Vagabond” shared their hopes for high ratings to match the upcoming drama’s promised high quality!

“Vagabond” tells the story of a stuntman named Cha Dal Gun (played by Lee Seung Gi), who stumbles upon a massive corruption scandal while trying to uncover the hidden truth behind a mysterious plane crash. He ends up investigating the case alongside National Intelligence Service (NIS) secret agent Go Hae Ri (played by Suzy).

On September 16, the cast and producing director Yoo In Shik held a press conference ahead of the drama’s premiere. Yoo In Shik raised anticipation for “Vagabond” and complimented the actors’ close teamwork, saying, “We shot in Morocco for two months, and not only was the flight long, but the food and environment might not have suited the cast. They also must have been nervous because of the action scenes. [Despite these factors,] it was great while we were there. We got to know each other through morning shoots and evening drinking parties. Even when the drama ends, I think these friendships will last.”

When Lee Seung Gi was asked whether the 25 billion won (approximately $21.1 million) budget put pressure on him, the actor said, “The producers prepared so perfectly that I didn’t feel any pressure. Because they filmed in a way that didn’t disrupt the drama and was more fun than the script, I never felt burdened. It was a place where I could safely focus on my acting.”

Lee Seung Gi further commented on his character Cha Dal Gun. “I think this character is the most manly out of anyone I’ve played. Usually, in action movies, the main character is someone who has received special training. However, “Vagabond” is about a regular person who stumbles on a conspiracy after his beloved nephew dies. Because of that, I tried to put more emotion into my action scenes than you would see in typical films in the genre.”

Suzy also shared a bit about her character, Go Hae Ri. She explained, “Go Hae Ri is a multidimensional figure who comes to investigate a plane crash with Cha Dal Gun while dispatched to Morocco. I hope that viewers will be able to see my own growth through the development of Go Hae Ri.”

Shin Sung Rok, who will play brilliant NIS agent Ki Tae Woong, closed the press conference by expressing his confidence in the drama. He said, “I think this project will do really well. I experienced a lot of things I’ve never done before, and while I was on set, I thought to myself that this drama will be on a whole new level. Our goal for viewership ratings is 30 percent. If we get 30 percent, the actors will discuss and come up with a special event.”

“Vagabond” premieres September 20 at 10 p.m. KST. Check out the latest teaser here!
