Lee Hyori Opens Up About Compatibility With Lee Sang Soon, Thoughts Of Retirement, And More

On the September 16 broadcast of SBS’s “Same Bed Different Dreams 2 — You Are My Destiny,” Lee Hyori and Lee Sang Soon visited the home of Yoon Sang Hyun and Maybee.

Maybee and Lee Hyori first met in 2003 when Maybee wrote the lyrics for Lee Hyori’s solo debut track “10 Minutes,” and the two later became friends after Maybee made her debut in 2006 and they spent time together at a performance abroad.

On the show, Lee Hyori talked about her compatibility with Lee Sang Soon and her relationships with the people around her.

She revealed that she and Lee Sang Soon went to a fortune teller once before marriage to see how compatible they were. “They said [Lee Sang Soon]’s fortune was to save me,” said Lee Hyori. She joked, “Ever since then, he’s bragged about how he’s the one that saved me.” Lee Sang Soon added that they were told if Lee Hyori hadn’t meet Lee Sang Soon, she would have had a short life.”

Lee Hyori said, “At the time, we just laughed about it, but because of him, we moved to Jeju, I started working less, I started yoga, and I drank less. My lifestyle changed, so I definitely became more healthy.”

Lee Hyori also talked about her relationships with the people around her, saying that many find her difficult to approach.

Maybee revealed she initially felt the same about Lee Hyori. “We’re friends, but [Lee Hyori] seems larger-than-life, and I’m not the type to share my feelings. When I look at Hyori, there’s part of her that seems lonely. I wanted to help, but I felt really cautious about that, too.”

Lee Hyori added, “There are a lot of people who are my friends, but feel that way. What I want is the type of friendship where someone [is comfortable enough with me to] call me late at night and ask me to take them home because they’re drunk, but I don’t have anyone like that.”

“Even my parents find me difficult to approach,” said Lee Hyori. “They don’t call me and will call [Lee Sang Soon] instead. If they have something to say to me, they’ll call him.”

Lee Sang Soon joked, “Her friends all call me.”

Yoon Sang Hyun and Maybee prepared tea for the couple, and said, “This is a special tea that you drink after sleeping together.”

Lee Hyori said, “Can we drink it if we haven’t slept together? It’s been a while… Do you have tea that makes you want to sleep together?” Lee Sang Soon agreed, asking if they had any, and Yoon Sang Hyun responded that they weren’t able to prepare any such tea.

Lee Hyori also revealed that she’s thought about no longer appearing on television at all. “Because life with just the two of us is fun. If I were to announce my retirement, what would my life look like afterward?”
