Watch: (G)I-DLE, Lovelyz, And Oh My Girl Enchant With Impactful Cover Performances On 'Queendom'

(G)I-DLE, Lovelyz, and Oh My Girl commanded attention with their covers of girl group hits on “Queendom”!

The September 19 broadcast continued from the first set of performances by MAMAMOO, Park Bom, and AOA. The episode opened with Oh My Girl. Previously, the group had received three down votes from their fellow competitors in the self-evaluation category. Hyojung, who had shown tears at the first rankings announcement, shared her resolve for the cover battle. She said, “I want to show them this time how scary our presence can be.”

Oh My Girl chose Lovelyz’s “Destiny” as their cover song and created a dreamy performance with an arrangement using traditional Korean instruments and a dance that featured white cloth and the members dressed in dark traditional costumes. While watching, the other groups complemented Oh My Girl highly, even commenting, “Oh My Girl is first place.”

Seunghee began to cry backstage after their performance. She said, “I got extremely emotional for some reason. The cheers were really loud. Yesterday I felt like such a worthless person, but after receiving applause in just a few hours, I became someone who is cheered for. I’ve realized that I’m a person with worth though ‘Queendom.'”

Next to take the stage was (G)I-DLE with an explosive cover of 2NE1’s “Fire.” Jeon Soyeon stated, “Our goal is to be one with the stage and have fun.” They received cheers for their arrangement using African instruments and gained enthusiastic praise from the original artist Park Bom.

Lovelyz rounded out the performances with a cover of Brown Eyed Girls’s “Sixth Sense.” Although they originally had to perform an Oh My Girl song, they won a benefit after winning a mission that allowed them free choice.

Baby Soul explained the reason for selecting “Sixth Sense” by saying, “Oh My Girl’s concept overlaps with ours, and we thought there was a limit to what we could do.” Sujeong added, “Since we’ll be eliminated if we get last place again, we’re working even harder.”

For their powerful performance that showcased a different charm for the group, they received compliments from both the audience and the contestants.

Following the conclusion of the performances, the groups held a self-evaluation vote. Oh My Girl, who had received three down votes last time, were voted up by MAMAMOO, Park Bom, AOA, and (G)I-DLE, securing first place in the category. On the other hand, Lovelyz and (G)I-DLE each received two down votes. Viewers will have to tune in next week to see how the groups fare in the overall rankings.

“Queendom” airs on Thursdays at 9:20 p.m. KST.
