4 Questions Left To Answer As "Arthdal Chronicles" Nears Its Finale

With just two episodes left in its run, tvN’s “Arthdal Chronicles” has summed up four key plot points to keep an eye on before the drama comes to an end.

“Arthdal Chronicles” is an epic fantasy drama about heroes who write their own legends in the mythical land of Arth. Parts 1 and 2 aired earlier this summer, while Part 3 premiered on September 7.

In last week’s episode, Eun Seom (Song Joong Ki) had been thrown over a waterfall as a test by the Ago Tribe. He was saved from drowning by the chief of the Momo Tribe (Karata Erika).

Will Ta Gon become king of Arth?

Ta Gon (Jang Dong Gun), who has struggled until now to maintain his image as a benevolent leader, recently had his secret found out by Asa Ron (Lee Do Kyung) and the other tribe leaders. In order to hide that he is an Igutu (half-Neanthal, half-human), he massacred them all.

When another soldier, Mungtae of the Wahan Tribe (Park Jin), also discovered his secret, Ta Gon ordered him to kill anyone who opposes him. After this happened, Mihol (Jo Sung Ha) said about Ta Gon, “He has the eyes of a king.”

The land of Arth is ruled by the Arthdal Union, a collection of tribe leaders who jockey for power and make major decisions about the country together. The tribes have never had a king who rules over them all, but now that Ta Gon has nothing left to lose, he may well be on the path to absolute power.

One of the few things in his way is the Hae Tribe and their closely-held secret to making bronze. Will Ta Gon be able to persuade Taealha (Kim Ok Bin), his lover and steadfast ally, into giving up her tribe’s secrets?

Will Eun Seom win over the Ago Tribe?

The reason that Eun Seom had been sent over the waterfall was because Ipsaeng (Kim Sung Cheol) convinced him to pretend that he was being possessed by the god of the Ago Tribe, Inaishingi. Eun Seom, who hopes to gain power and challenge the Arthdal Union with an army of his own, needs to win over the Ago Tribe to accomplish his goal.

Eun Seom was saved from the deadly task by the Momo Tribe, but will the Ago Tribe acknowledge him as a god? Can Eun Seom reunite the various fighting clans of the Ago Tribe and challenge Ta Gon for power?

Will Saya learn about his long-lost twin?

Eun Seom and Saya (also Song Joong Ki), the half-Neanthal and half-human children of Asa Hon (Chu Ja Hyun) and Ragaz (Yoo Tae Oh), were separated as babies in Episode 1. Saya was adopted by Ta Gon but spent his life locked in a tower. He is determined to make his father the most powerful figure in Arth and isn’t afraid to use violence and cruelty to get what he wants.

Although Eun Seom and Saya have shared dreams, they do not know of each other’s existence. Tanya (Kim Ji Won) swore the Wahan Tribe to secrecy about Saya’s resemblance to Eun Seom, but in last week’s episode, Saya overheard a conversation between Tanya and Mubaek (Park Hae Joon) that led him to suspect Tanya was keeping something from him.

Will Tanya learn to wield her own power?

In last week’s episode, Tanya, disgusted by Ta Gon’s violence, made the decision to return to Iark. However, she soon found that the other members of the Wahan Tribe have grown used to life in Arthdal and were not interested in returning to their ancestral home.

In the speech that Ta Gon and Taealha forced Tanya to make to the people of Arthdal, Tanya flipped the script so that the people began worshipping her as a merciful high priestess. Ta Gon decided to let this go, saying, “The balance is good between us. The leader who inspires fear and the high priestess who gives them mercy.” But Tanya also shared her determination to gain power by winning the hearts of the people, suggesting that the balance may tip in her favor.

The final two episodes of “Arthdal Chronicles” will air on September 21 and 22 at 9 p.m. KST.
