Seo Ji Hye Receives Malicious Comments For Posting About Book + Kim Ok Bin Shows Support
On September 26, Seo Ji Hye took to her Instagram and shared a photo of the novel “Kim Ji Young Born in ’82.” In the caption, the actress wrote, “Successful with opening the book.”
However, the actress was immediately attacked by some netizens for reading a book that has come to represent feminism. The book’s plot centers around an ordinary wife in her 30s named Kim Ji Young who suffers from depression. It also depicts the sexism Kim Ji Young encountered since she was young.
In response, Seo Ji Hye appears to have deleted the post. Instead, she uploaded a photo of a sunset and wrote in the caption, “……” Kim Ok Bin showed support for Seo Ji Hye by commenting, “Freedom to read whatever you want. Who is to censor it?”
Written by Jo Nam Joo, “Kim Ji Young Born in ’82” is a best-selling novel that has recorded sales of over 1 million copies. However, because the book addresses feminism, which is still a sensitive issue in Korea, it has been at the center of controversy for some time. In the past, Red Velvet’s Irene also became the center of attention when she revealed that she read the novel while on vacation.
A movie based on the novel, starring Jung Yu Mi and Gong Yoo, is set to premiere sometime in October. Check out a trailer here.
