Choi Byung Chan Explains Why He Joined "Produce X 101" + Talks About VICTON's Comeback
VICTON’s Choi Byung Chan features in the October issue of Dazed Korea, with the idol posing for his first ever solo photo shoot.
Choi Byung Chan recently competed on “Produce X 101” along with fellow VICTON member Han Seung Woo. Choi Byung Chan had to leave the show towards the end due to health reasons, while Han Seung Woo was chosen as one of the top 11 contestants and therefore is currently promoting with the show’s project group X1. After Choi Byung Chan’s return, VICTON recently held a fan meeting together and are gearing up for a comeback soon—their first after a hiatus of almost a year and a half.
In his interview for Dazed, Choi Byung Chan was asked what he was feeling when he decided to join “Produce X 101.”
“When I joined, I thought, ‘Let’s start anew’ and ‘Let’s create a turning point,'” he explained. “I thought it would be a new challenge and also a chance to receive a bigger spotlight. I think the first filming was the most intense. I faced 100 other people who had the same dream as me, and I was surprised. Seung Woo, who had joined with me, was sitting next to me and I said to him, ‘This is really no joke, just as they say. Let’s try to do a good job!’ I’d decided to work hard, improve, and become a cooler singer.”
When asked what kind of idol he’d like to be, Choi Byung Chan said, “Someone with a good personality who is polite. Skill is important too, but I think attitude is also important. I want to be an upright person. I also like people who are polite, and I think fans would be the same way.”
“VICTON is preparing for a comeback,” said Choi Byung Chan. “I want to stand in front of our fans soon. To give you a hint, we’re going to return with an upgraded image.”
VICTON is a seven-member group under Play M Entertainment (also home to Apink, Huh Gak, and more) that debuted in November 2016 and most recently made a comeback with “Time of Sorrow” in May 2018. Choi Byung Chan will hold his first solo fan meeting in Taiwan on September 28, followed by a fan meeting in Seoul on October 20.
