SuperM On How The Members Were Chosen, Their Group Dynamic, And More

SuperM provided insight on how the members were selected, talked about their synergy as a group, and more!

On October 2 at Dragon City Hotel in Seoul, SHINee’s Taemin, EXO’s Baekhyun and Kai, NCT 127’s Taeyong and Mark, and WayV’s Lucas and Ten gathered for the launching conference for their group SuperM.

When asked how the members came together, leader Baekhyun responded, “For starters, it was Lee Soo Man who picked us. We call ourselves Soo Man’s Picks.”

Taemin hilariously elaborated, “The reason I was chosen is simple. I’m the only one available [in SHINee] right now.” He added, “This is such a great opportunity for me, and it has become a wonderful experience. It was a chance to learn a lot.”

The group further discussed their name and what it means to them. The M in SuperM stands for Matrix and Master, and the name indicates the great synergy that will be shown by artists with exceptional skill. Leader Baekhyun stated, “Our goal is to display super synergy through our individuality, skills, and experience.”

He continued, “When we got together, there were no difficulties. It was great to be with friends I always thought of as talented, and we went through practice smoothly.”

After making their debut with their title track “Jopping” on October 4, SuperM will perform together for the first time at Capitol Records in Hollywood on October 5 local time. In the meantime, check out the performance video featuring Taemin, Kai, and Ten here!
