8 "The King Of Mask Singer" Performances That Will Give You Chills
I’ll be honest — sometimes I get real distracted by the masks and outfits while watching “The King of Mask Singer.” Like, how am I supposed to get into a cry-worthy ballad when it’s being sung by Shrek? And yet, somehow, despite their often bizarre costumes, the singers on this show still manage to convey such heartfelt emotions that I’m often left speechless. Who would have thought that Bob Ross could make me feel some kind of way? (Keep reading if you don’t know what I’m talking about.)
Also, please note that this article does reveal who is behind each mask, so I’m going to throw up a spoiler alert real quick before we get into things.

Super Junior’s Kyuhyun – “I Don’t Love You” by Urban Zakapa
This song always makes me a little emotional, but Kyuhyun’s rendition seriously gives me goosebumps at times. What’s more, the song was originally arranged for three people (including a woman), so the fact that he makes it sound like it was made for him is even more impressive. I recommend locating the nearest tissue box before watching this performance, because Kyuhyun really knows how to pull at your heartstrings.

B1A4’s Sandeul – “Emergency Room” by izi
I might be a little biased when it comes to this performance, seeing as Sandeul is one of my favorite singers — idol or not — and this song carries a lot of nostalgia for me. Even so, I think most would agree that Sandeul positively nails it here. You don’t have to have been part of the live audience that day to know he had total command over everyone listening, given his outstanding vocal control and power.
Son Seung Yeon (Sonnet Son) – “A Winter Story” by The One
While the song is called “A Winter Story,” Son Seung Yeon’s voice feels like a warm blanket. Her tone is simply beautiful, and the emotion in her voice could surely sway anyone. I’m actually struggling to think of what to write to describe how breathtaking this performance is. Just listen to it and be amazed!

NCT’s Doyoung – “Time Spent Walking Through Memories” by Nell
First of all, I was initially really surprised and impressed that Doyoung started his performance out acapella. This is an extremely well-known song, so at least in my mind, it’s not a small risk to take. Doyoung executes this part flawlessly, though, and things only get better from there as the song goes on. His falsetto toward the end definitely sent chills down my spine.

Ailee – “For You” by Im Jae Bum
Speaking of distracting masks… I low key wanted to snip those antennae off while watching this stage. Even so, Ailee’s powerful vocals have no trouble shining through, touching listeners’ hearts and, as always, leaving all in awe. (I couldn’t help but grin at the way everyone reacted at 2:12!) If Ailee isn’t a legendary solo artist, then I don’t know who is.
Sohyang – “Hug Me” by Jung Joon Il
This just might be one of my all-time favorite ballads, and I’m not so sure I’ll ever like anyone’s rendition of it more than the original, but I must say, Sohyang still astounded me with this stage. The only issue I have with this one is that the video cuts off just as she’s getting to the best part. Fortunately, there’s an even better recording of her performing the full song without the mask on (the section that starts at 3:10 is mind-blowing!).
Han Dong Geun – “Downpour” by I.O.I
The real Bob Ross showed us the joy of painting, so it only makes sense for this Bob Ross to show us the joy of singing. Nothing against I.O.I, but Han Dong Geun’s version of “Downpour” hits me in a way that theirs doesn’t. The way he pours out his soul is no joke. In fact, I’m pretty sure my jaw was hanging open the whole performance.

U Sung Eun & gugudan’s Kim Sejeong – “If I Leave” by Jo Sumi
If you’ve heard the original by Jo Sumi — who, by the way, is a Grammy-winner — then you know that this is not an easy song to sing. Thankfully, U Sung Eun and Kim Sejeong do not disappoint in the slightest! Moreover, neither singer seems to overshadow the other, making this performance all the more riveting.
