3 Times Ji Chang Wook Stole Viewers' Hearts In 'Melting Me Softly'

Ji Chang Wook is currently embracing his nickname of the “romance artisan” through tvN’s new Saturday-Sunday drama “Melting Me Softly”!

“Melting Me Softly” is a new tvN drama about variety show producer Ma Dong Chan (Ji Chang Wook) and part-time employee Go Mi Ran (Won Jin Ah) who participate in a project to be frozen for 24 hours. Due to a mysterious scheme, they end up being frozen for 20 years instead. Although Ma Dong Chan is a passionate producer who throws caution to the wind, he shows a different side of himself when he acts gentle and warm towards those he loves.

Here are three times that Ji Chang Wook had viewers’ hearts melting with his acting!

1. “I do what my heart tells me to do. That’s also how I fell in love with you.”

In 1999, Ma Dong Chan came up with the “Frozen Human Project” and chose to participate in the experiment himself. One person who was strongly against this idea was his girlfriend Na Ha Young (Chae Seo Jin). Because she loved and worried about Ma Dong Chan more than anyone, she stated, “You’re crazy,” but in the end, she couldn’t win against his stubbornness. When Na Ha Young asked, “Why do you live such a difficult life?” Ma Dong Chan responded, “I do what my heart tells me to do. Whatever it may be.” He then stared at her with a gentle expression as he said, “That’s also how I fell in love with you.” He proved that he had a one-track mind not only when it came to his work, but towards those he loved as well.

2. “Yeah. I see you (as a woman).”

After exchanging a sweet kiss with Na Ha Young, Ma Dong Chan promised her that he would “come back alive,” but the promise was not kept until 2019, two decades later. During the time he was frozen for twenty years, Na Ha Young had already entered her 40s. When they met again in 2019, she was visibly uncomfortable, so Ma Dong Chan said, “Do you remember? You said you were afraid that I’d turn ice cold when I came out after the experiment. I think the person who’s changed isn’t me, but you.” Na Ha Young responded by cautiously asking, “Do you see still see me as a woman?” and he answered without hesitation, “Yeah. I see you (as a woman).” With this blunt answer, Ma Dong Chan proved that he was still confident about his own thoughts and invested in those he loved 20 years later, and Na Ha Young began to feel a change in her heart.

3. “Are you hurt anywhere? Be careful not to warm up too much.”

Meanwhile, viewers saw Ma Dong Chan striking up a romance with another person as well. After going through this unbelievable experience with Go Mi Ran, Ma Dong Chan had no choice but to lean on her for support and vice versa. When he learns from Cho Ki Bum (Lee Moo Saeng) that they must maintain a normal body temperature of 31.5 degrees Celsius (approximately 88.7 degrees Fahrenheit) and not surpass 33 degrees Celsius (approximately 91.4 degrees Fahrenheit) in order to survive, the first person he thinks of is Go Mi Ran. Ma Dong Chan gives her a call and asks, “Are you hurt anywhere? Be careful not to warm up too much,” showing his genuine concern for her. Viewers also felt their hearts pound when Ma Dong Chan was seen in the preview for the next episode staring at Go Mi Ran with a loving expression while she held a smartphone and innocently remarked, “This is really fascinating.”

“Melting Me Softly” airs on Saturdays and Sundays at 9 p.m. KST.
