Watch: Yoo Jae Suk Teams Up With Paul Kim, Heize, Zion.T, And More For A Successful Drum Recital
Yoo Jae Suk held a drum recital for his MBC variety show “How Do You Play?”
Yoo Jae Suk learned to play the drums for a project called “Yooplash,” inspired by the 2014 film “Whiplash.” The project involves a drum beat, played by Yoo Jae Suk under the direction of Cherry Filter’s drummer SonStar, which is then passed on to other artists in a relay format. Each artist who receives the track adds something onto it, like a guitar line or a different beat.
The October 19 broadcast of “How Do You Play?” showed Yoo Jae Suk’s recital with the completed tracks, and many artists came to watch and perform with him.
Yoo Jae Suk opened the show with the drum beat from the Beatles’ “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” and followed up with his first track, “How Do You Play” (literal title).
Lee Sang Soon, Yoon Sang, Jeok Jae, Dynamic Duo, Gray, Sam Kim, Crush, and more artists joined in on the performance through a screen behind Yoo Jae Suk.
The next song was “Sense” (literal title), made with Paul Kim, Heize, and Peakboy. Paul Kim and Heize joined Yoo Jae Suk on stage to perform the sweet love song, and Peakboy later came up on stage for his rap part.
The “Bother Me + It’s Not That I Couldn’t Do It” (literal title) stage started off smoothly with So!YoON! and pianist Han Sang Won’s appearance. The performance made a complete change in the middle as singer Sumin joined the stage.
The song “Confused” (literal title) was made by Yoo Jae Suk, Yoo Hee Yeol, Yoon Sang, Lee Sang Soon, Jeok Jae, and Colde, and the lyrics were written by Kim Eana, Zion.T, and Colde. Jeon Somi took part in the track as a backup singer under Zion.T’s detailed directions.
Oddly resembling each other, Yoo Jae Suk and Zion.T started off the performance, and Colde made his appearance in the middle to perform his rap part.
The episode ended with a teaser of the final stage, for which Yoo Jae Suk appears in a black suit to play an unreleased track by Shin Hae Chul, a singer who passed away in 2014.
