"Extraordinary You" Webtoon Writer Praises The Drama's Actors And Directing
The webtoon writer behind the original story of “Extraordinary You” showed their love for the drama!
MBC’s “Extraordinary You” tells the story of a high school student named Eun Dan Oh (Kim Hye Yoon) who discovers that she is a character in a manhwa (Korean comic). When she meets a nameless extra in the story (SF9’s Rowoon), she decides to go against her predetermined fate and find true love.
The October 16 broadcast of “Extraordinary You” recorded 4.2 percent in viewership ratings, showcasing a steady increase. Furthermore, the drama recorded 3.1 percent in ratings among viewers who were between the ages of 20 to 49.
Moo Ryu, the author of the webtoon “July Found By Chance” (literal title), shared, “[‘Extraordinary You’] is overflowing with a charm that’s different from the webtoon. In addition to Kim Hye Yoon, all the actors match perfectly with their characters, so I’m completely immersed in the drama.”
The author also added, “The height difference between the male and female leads is a classic cliché, but the actual leads in ‘Extraordinary You’ materialized this well, accurately targeting the viewers’ tastes.”
On the beautiful style of directing that has received positive reviews from viewers, Moo Ryu commented, “A part of me was worried because I thought it would be difficult to dramatize the webtoon setup itself, but there are many aspects that were easily resolved through the directing, so I’m thankful as the original author.” The author further pointed out that another interesting aspect viewers can look out for is the differences in the story of the drama versus the webtoon.
“Extraordinary You” producer Moon Joo Hee shared, “I enjoyed the beautiful drawing tone of the original story, but I was also drawn to the message it held. [The story] has much support from people in their teens and 20s, but it’s not a story that’s confined to people in their teens, as it has a message that anyone can relate to.” The producer added, “We hope [viewers] can find different interesting aspects [in the drama compared to] the original story through the exciting script, detailed directing, and passionate actors.”
“Extraordinary You” airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 8:55 p.m. KST.
