Shin Se Kyung Shares Praise For ASTRO's Cha Eun Woo And Talks About Taking On Progressive Roles
Shin Se Kyung talked about her drama “Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung”!
In a recent interview, Shin Se Kyung talked about working with ASTRO’s Cha Eun Woo. She shared that Cha Eun Woo was a perfect fit for the role of Prince Lee Rim as he did a flawless job of portraying a pure and innocent character who had been locked up in a palace for 20 years. She said, “I thought it was the perfect casting.”
Shin Se Kyung also talked about receiving a lot of help from Cha Eun Woo on set as well. Since the drama had a lighter vibe than most other historical dramas, the actors had to do a good job of balancing bright and serious energies, making sure to put emphasis on the refreshing moments. Shin Se Kyung shared, “On that point, Cha Eun Woo’s novel expressions and refreshing energy worked in synergy and were very helpful on set.”
The actress also shared, “I felt pressured because Cha Eun Woo has such flowery visuals. I think about the visual match for all projects, and this time around as well, I can’t say it wasn’t a burden.”
Furthermore, Shin Se Kyung talked about the big response she receives each time she takes on a historical drama. She explained, “I tend to look at the various overall aspects [of a project] and not just the character, so I think it was effective that I picked [dramas] while trusting in the strength of their stories.”
On the progressive female roles she’s taken on in those historical dramas, Shin Se Kyung shared, “I wanted to say [through my projects that] women who lived during the Joseon dynasty and the end of the Goryeo dynasty knew how to do other things besides just being jealous. I enjoyed acting as characters who showed that there were definitely things [women could do] while living during those times outside of just loving and receiving love.”
Shin Se Kyung also shared her thoughts on taking on challenging characters. She explained that she is willing to take on both a character who’s similar to her and a character who’s a completely new challenge for her. However, she explained, “Since I still have many aspects that I’m lacking as an actress, I tend to select characters through which I won’t bring harm to the project rather than taking on a new challenge.”
Finally, the actress shared her hopes for her 30s, explaining that she wanted to both rest well and work hard while being happy. Shin Se Kyung said, “When I look at the interviews I did in my early-20s and mid-20s, I seem very exhausted. I was also very stressed. I think I was able to achieve the stability I have now because I went through those times, so I think life after 30 [years of age] will be even better in that aspect.” She added, “As a person and an actress, there are many things I’m looking forward to. I want to live well and happily.”
