SF9's Chani And Hwiyoung Discuss Their Roles As Friends And Teammates

The two youngest members of SF9 were recently inteviewed for Cosmopolitan Korea.

The two members have known each other since they were teens. In the interview, they discussed how much has changed about each other since then.

Chani had a baby face,” said Hwiyoung. “My first impression of him was that he was kind and pure. Now…he’s matured a lot. It’s not so apparent when it’s just the two of us, but when there are a lot of other people around I can definitely see the change. As more and more people came to acknowledge him, he’s worked hard to show a better side of himself. I respect that.”

Chani said, “Hwiyoung was very shy before, but he’s loosened up a lot now. He buys me more food now, too.”

When asked about the similarities that people see in them, Hwiyoung responded, “We have a similar taste in music. When I would listen to music and Chani could hear, he would remark about how he liked it. Similarly, I liked music that he would recommend to me.” Chani then added, “Of course we have a similar taste in music. We’ve been working together in the music industry for two years now.”

Then, regarding their differences, Chani remarked, “We spend our free time differently. I prefer to meet with friends and go to the movies or to play billiards, while Hwiyoung prefers to hang out at cafes.”

The members also discussed their experiences as group members of SF9. Regarding which song or performance made the deepest impression on them, Chani said, “I thought Hwiyoung looked really cool during the promotions for ‘Now or Never.’ It’s hard to think that way when you’re around someone 24 hours a day, which is why it’s especially memorable.”

Hwiyoung said, “I also thought that ‘Now or Never’ was Chani’s best song. As our main dancer, he really worked hard to take it up to the next level. It brought the whole performance up considerably. It was really good timing for him to be cast in ‘SKY Castle‘ around that time, too.”

On the topic of his songwriting, Hwiyoung shared that Chani is usually the first to listen to his songs. “Since we share a room, we also share one computer. It’s unavoidable that he listens to things directly.” Chani added, “Truthfully, the first time I heard one of the songs Hwiyoung wrote, I thought, ‘this isn’t half bad.’ Nowadays I’m eager to hear it. Sometimes I’ll ask him when he’ll be working on a new song.”

The interview wrapped up with their thoughts on the future. Chani said, “This year and last were all about ‘experiences.’ I feel like I’ve been living through a lot of new experiences. I’d like to end the year on a relaxed note, especially since this time last year we went all out without taking a break. I hope that we can have an easy 2020 as well.”

Hwiyoung said, “I think we played it safe this year. I’d like to finish off this year without thinking too hard on it, just living in the moment. As for 2020… I just hope it goes well. More and more I’m asking myself where my life is going. I should focus on just one thing, but I’d like to spend my time in more varied and beautiful ways.”
