Kim Gun Mo Announces Legal Action Against YouTube Channel Accusing Him Of Sexual Assault

Kim Gun Mo has announced that he will be taking legal action against a YouTube channel that shared allegations of sexual assault.

On December 6, a source from his agency stated, “The suspicions of sexual assault reported by Garo Sero Institute are untrue. We will confer with a lawyer about taking legal action against spreading false rumors and defamation of character.”

Earlier on the same day, lawyer Kang Yong Suk and former reporter Kim Yong Ho shared a story about Kim Gun Mo’s alleged sexual assault through the YouTube channel Garo Sero Institute (literal title). (Kang Yong Suk created the channel and both regularly appear as hosts in videos about entertainment and political news on the channel.) Kang Yong Suk and Kim Yong Ho said that they got their story directly from the victim, a woman referred to as “A.”

According to them, “A” works as an employee of an entertainment bar in the Nonhyeon neighborhood of Gangnam, Seoul. “A” told them that she met Kim Gun Mo for the first time on the day of the alleged assault when he came to the bar as a customer.

Kang Yong Suk and Kim Yong Ho said, “[The victim told us that] Kim Gun Mo arrived alone at 1 a.m. wearing a Batman t-shirt. He didn’t drink hard liquor but ordered soju and drank that instead. The victim drew a plan of the bar’s interior for us, and said Kim Gun Mo was in Room No. 9.”

They continued, “The victim was the eighth woman to enter the room that Kim Gun Mo was in, but he told all the other women to leave and told the waiter not to let anyone else in. He then told the victim to come into the bathroom, which was attached to the room in a special enclosed area. He then forced her into oral sex. Afterwards, he put her on the sofa and started sexually assaulting her.”

Kang Yong Suk and Kim Yong Ho said, “We asked her why she didn’t scream, and she said that there were 17 rooms and no one would have heard her if she tried. It was important for us to verify the truth through concrete details, so we have secured a lot of evidence. It’s obvious what Kim Gun Mo’s response will be, so we can’t reveal the evidence on broadcast.”

The two ended the live broadcast on the YouTube channel by saying an official complaint will be filed on December 9.

Kim Gun Mo is a veteran singer-songwriter and one of the most popular artists from the 1990s. He recently announced his upcoming marriage.
