Events Postponed Or Canceled In Korea And Around Asia Due To Coronavirus Concerns

A number of events taking place in Korea and around Asia have been cancelled due to public health concerns surrounding the outbreak of the coronavirus in Wuhan, China.

On January 29, the production company behind the military musical “The Return,” which currently stars SHINee’s Onew, EXO’s Xiumin, VIXX’s N, Jo Kwon, and others, announced that a number of shows had been cancelled in the more rural regions of Korea. “We would like to apologize to the audiences who had anticipated the performances of ‘Return.’ However, in the interest of protecting the health of our audiences, we ask for your understanding in the matter.”

Performances to be held from February 7 through February 9 in Ilsan and Goyang, and from February 21 through February 23 in Ansan were cancelled. However, performances scheduled for January 31 in Mokpo and February 28 in Gimhae will go on as originally scheduled. Ilsan, Goyang, and Ansan are all in close proximity to Seoul and the international airport in Incheon, while Mokpo and Gimhae are much further south.

Actress Jun So Min also postponed her fansign event, which was originally scheduled for February 1. She announced the cancellation on her personal Instagram account, writing, “I’m very sorry. I was also looking forward to meeting with everyone, but in order to protect everyone’s health, the fansign meeting has been postponed. Let’s definitely meet healthily next time.”

The publisher Bookrum, who was in charge of the fansign, also made a statement through Instagram, stating that it was in fact due to the coronavirus outbreak that they decided to postpone the fansign meeting. “We will let you know as soon as a new date has been set.”

Super Junior, who released a new album on January 28, planned to film comeback show called “Super Junior: The Stage” in Ilsan and initially planned to allow 400 fans each for two episodes of filming. However, due to the outbreak, only film crews and staff members will be now allowed to attend the filming.

Singer Kang Sung Hoon also cancelled his fan meetings scheduled for February 14 and 15, citing public health concerns. His agency stated that they would announce when the fan meetings were rescheduled at a later date.

Lastly, Taeyeon’s concert performance in Singapore scheduled for February 1, and NCT Dream’s concerts in Macau and Singapore scheduled for February 7 and 8 and February 15 respectively, have all been temporarily postponed, according to agency SM Entertainment.
