"Parasite" Beats Out "The Passion Of The Christ" To Take Title Of Highest-Grossing Foreign Language Film In The UK
“Parasite” continues to make history at the box office!
The smash hit has now overtaken the 2004 film “The Passion of the Christ” to become the highest-grossing foreign language film in the United Kingdom.
According to CJ Entertainment, “Parasite” has achieved earnings of 11,088,149 pounds (approximately 14.32 million dollars) in the United Kingdom as of March 6 local time. This beats the previous record of 11,078,861 pounds (approximately 14.03 million dollars) achieved by the Mel Gibson-directed film “The Passion of the Christ” 16 years ago.
American outlet Hollywood Reporter notes that “Parasite” was released later in the United Kingdom than in other regions, hitting theaters on February 7. It came out around the same time as the film was named Best Picture at the Academy Awards on February 9, which fueled its box office success.
Hollywood Reporter writes that the film has earned a box office of 257 million dollars worldwide, with over 50 million dollars of that coming from the United States.
