Watch: ITZY Members Show Off Their Individual Talents + Talk About Their Group Name
ITZY appeared as guests on the March 14 broadcast of KBS’s “Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook!”
During the show, ITZY performed their latest song “WANNABE,” showed off their individual talents, and shared their initial reactions to their group name.
This was the group’s first appearance on “Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook. Although the recording was held without a live audience present, as has been the usual in South Korea for weeks, Yoo Hee Yeol pointed out that members of the staff were huge fans of ITZY and were sitting in the front row of seats.
Yoo Hee Yeol shared that he remembered Yeji and Chaeryeong from their previous appearances on audition programs like “K-Pop Star 3” and “The Fan.” He then asked them to think of themselves as being at home because he is the same age as Yuna and Chaeryeong’s fathers.
When asked about their group name, Yeji explained that ITZY means, “Our team carries the meaning of ‘all in us.'” The group then did their trademark greeting. She continued, “‘All in us’ means that whatever people want from us, we carry within us. That could be talent, appeal, or visuals. It means we will work hard to bring those things out. Not necessarily that we have them, but that we could have them.” (In Korean, the word “ITZY” sounds similar to the verb “to have” or “to exist.”)
They added that the name was Park Jin Young’s idea. Chaeryeong said, “At first, we were taken aback. We weren’t sure what language the name was in. We weren’t sure if it was the common word that we all knew.” Lia chimed in, “We asked, ‘What is it that we have [itzy]?’ And he said, no, that’s your group name.”
Lia shared that she had prepared a cover of Jessie J’s “Price Tag,” which she described as a song that she had liked a lot when she was younger.
Yeji then showed the jump rope choreography she had prepared to their song “WANNABE.”
