"Memorist" Creator Shares Reaction To The Webtoon's Drama Adaptation
New tvN drama “Memorist” is already off to a great start, hitting the ground running with strong ratings after its March 11 premiere. The creator of the original webtoon, Jae Hoo, has shared their reaction to the adaptation.
Starring Yoo Seung Ho, Lee Se Young, Jo Sung Ha, Go Chang Suk, Yoon Ji On, and Jun Hyosung, “Memorist” is based on a webtoon of the same name and tells the story of Dong Baek (Yoo Seung Ho), a detective with supernatural powers, and Han Sun Mi (Lee Se Young), an elite criminal profiler, who team up to track down a brutal serial killer.
So far, Jae Hoo has been nothing but thrilled with the way the adaptation has turned out. “It makes me deeply emotion. It’s enough to make a person over the moon that my webtoon was adapted into a drama, but the casting fits perfectly with the characters’ images, and not one person isn’t a spectacular performer.”
Jae Hoo continued, “The first episode far exceeded my expectations. It’s going to make the viewers feel like the drama itself was the original work every week.”
Though so far the drama has been faithful to its source work, Jae Hoo did reveal that there will be original plotlines new for the drama. “There will be episodes in ‘Memorist’ that you will only see in the drama. I’m very curious to see how viewers are going to receive these new scenarios that, while they didn’t appear in the original, still carry the same message as ‘Memorist’ is known for.”
Jae Hoo also expressed deep gratitude to the viewers and fans. “Thank you to all of the fans of the original,” Jae Hoo said. “The drama ‘Memorist’ will show a different sort of charm and emotion, I think. Everyone, from the cast to the producers,a re working so hard during filming, so I ask that everyone gives the ‘Memorist’ drama lots of love and support.”
The director of ‘Memorist’ Kim Hee said, “Our goal was to bring to life the original message, characters, and stories from the original work. Dong Baek (Yoo Seung Ho) has the power to feel other people’s emotions. His power is incredibly important, especially when he feels those emotions such as a victim’s despair or suffering. Viewers should pay special attention to that point.”
The next episode of “Memorist” will air on March 18 at 10:50 p.m. KST.
