Im Eun Seob’s drunk confession – “I’m happy you’re here, Irene.”

To Im Eun Seob, the winter season is special because that’s when Mok Hae Won returns to their hometown of Buk Hyeon. This winter, she’s staying until spring, and she has even taken on a part-time job at his bookstore. He is beyond happy about how close together they’ll be during the long winter. One day, after having a few cans of beer, Im Eun Seob drunkenly mutters in front of Mok Hae Won, “I’m happy you’re here, Irene,” using a secret nickname he has for her.

Mok Hae Won slowly falls for Im Eun Seob – “I’ll hug him tight.”

The town of Buk Hyeon became a warm haven for Mok Hae Won, who left behind her dreary city life for the time being. In Buk Hyeon, she didn’t have to be competitive or live busily. She could appreciate her everyday life and allow her days to flow naturally with the passage of time. Looking back, most of her days were spent with Im Eun Seob, and he had found a place in her heart before she could realize it. Unlike some others who treated her disrespectfully, Im Eun Seob was a warm-hearted man who knew how to think of others before himself.

When he disappeared without a word, Mok Hae Won was afraid that he may never come back again. She cast aside her fear and went up the hill to look for him. When she found him and saw that he had been lonely as well, she hugged him with all her might so that her warmth would properly reach him. Pressed close together, their hearts were beating faster than ever.

Mok Hae Won finds the courage to confess – “I like you.”

Im Eun Seob was always sweet. He gave Mok Hae Won sturdy fur shoes in case she might slip and fall on the rocky countryside ground, and when she was feeling down, he prepared a special event to make her feel better. When he saw that the streetlights had gone out, he thought of Mok Hae Won walking down the dark streets and changed the lightbulbs before anyone noticed. All of these kind actions brought the warmth back to Mok Hae Won’s heart, which had been frozen for a long time. She only realized her feelings when they returned to Walnut House, the guesthouse run by her aunt. Her heart about to burst from the overflowing emotions, she confessed to him, “I like you, Im Eun Seob.”

Im Eun Seob’s and Mok Hae Won’s hearts meet – The kiss

Im Eun Seob wasn’t the same after Mok Hae Won’s confession. Even when she came all the way to the cottage in the woods to find him, he told her coldly, “Don’t come up here again anymore. Even if I’m sick. Or even if I never go back down.” Im Eun Seob was too afraid. He believed that happiness was an illusion, and he could only tell Mok Hae Won, “I’m sorry.” But his feelings for her had not changed. When Mok Hae Won decided to climb up to the top of the hill, Im Eun Seob followed. There, in a magical moment, Im Eun Seob mustered up his courage and kissed her.
