Weki Meki's Kim Doyeon Shares Regrets About Her Acting Debut + Dishes On Upcoming Drama With Kim Min Kyu
In a recent interview and pictorial for Singles magazine, Weki Meki’s Kim Doyeon opened up about her budding acting career.
After making her acting debut in 2018 through the OCN drama “Short,” Kim Doyeon will be taking on her second acting role in the upcoming web drama “Boy and Girl Straight Out of a Cartoon” (literal title).
Based on the hit webtoon of the same name, “Boy and Girl Straight Out of a Cartoon” will tell the story of the chaos and whirlwind romance that occur when Chun Nam Wook, the male protagonist of a long-running manhwa (Korean comic), steps into the real world. There, he crosses paths with high school student Han Sun Nyeo, who happens to share the same face and name as the female protagonists of Chun Nam Wook’s manhwa.
Kim Doyeon will be starring in the web drama as Han Sun Nyeo, while former “Produce X 101” contestant Kim Min Kyu will be playing the role of Chun Nam Wook.
When asked to share her thoughts on taking on acting for the second time, Kim Doyeon revealed that she had lingering regrets about her first role. “In my first project, I struggled a lot with acting for the very first time, and I felt a lot of pressure,” she recalled. “I was so stressed about it that I was unable to enjoy it, and I think that really came across in my acting, so I have a lot of regrets [about the role].”
“I think I’m much more relaxed now compared to back then,” she went on, “so I want to enjoy the process of taking on the new challenge of acting.”
Kim Doyeon also expressed excitement about her new role, explaining, “The character of Han Sun Nyeo is kind of aloof and doesn’t like cheesy things. She dislikes prejudice, is always rational, and is confident wherever she goes. [When I first read the script,] I thought I was well-suited to the character, and I found that appealing. The role is well-suited to my age, the story is interesting, and I’d always wanted to act in a drama with a school setting, so I thought to myself, ‘I’d really be able to enjoy acting [as this character].'”
She added, “These days, I’m always thinking and worrying about how I can bring Han Sun Nyeo to life and make her more real.”
Sharing her hopes for her future acting career, Kim Doyeon humbly remarked, “For now, I’m still so lacking in terms of acting skill that I don’t know how to objectively evaluate my own acting. Right now, I want to approach acting slowly, instead of rushing into it. My dream is to eventually become an actress who possesses many different faces.”
Finally, when asked to describe herself, Kim Doyeon replied, “I hope that 10 years from now, I’ll still love myself the way I do now, without changing. I don’t want to lose myself the way I am now: someone who’s honest, caring, and sympathetic to other people’s stories.”
