WINNER's Kang Seung Yoon Talks About Being The Leader, His Past Dreams, And More
WINNER’s Kang Seung Yoon recently appeared as a guest on the KBS Cool FM radio show “Kang Han Na’s Volume Up.” This was the second week in a row that he was on the show.
Kang Seung Yoon debuted with WINNER in 2014 after the group was formed through the 2013 survival program “WIN: Who Is Next.” He holds the position of leader and also participates in producing songs and writing lyrics.
On the radio show, Kang Seung Yoon said, “I think that the position makes the person. I’m the type to be lazy and irresponsible, but after I became the leader, I changed completely.”
He continued, “During our time on the survival program, Song Mino was the leader. But he got injured and had to take some time off. After that, I became the temporary leader. We won the program that way, so I just naturally became the leader.”
When DJ Kang Han Na asked if he felt that he was a natural leader, he said, “No. I don’t have the gifts that people typically associate with leaders. I don’t have any charisma either.”
When asked if he attributed WINNER’s success to his efforts, he said, “That’s true up to 25 percent. Each of us plays our own role, so we each contribute a quarter to our success.”
Kang Seung Yoon also talked about his childhood dreams. He said, “I had a dream in elementary school, but I’ve changed a lot since then. I decided on my current path in high school. There were a few moments when I changed my mind.”
He continued, “I really wanted to be a billiards player. I actually was a youth billiards player. When I first fell for the guitar, I was learning the classical guitar and wanted to be a classical guitarist. At that time, I didn’t think I wanted to be a singer, but a classical guitarist. When I was young, I dreamed of things like being a minister, a scientist, and a comic book writer. I changed my mind a lot.”
WINNER recently released their third studio album, “Remember,” which performed well on charts domestic and worldwide. Two of their members, Kim Jin Woo and Lee Seung Hoon, also enlisted in the military this month.
