Lee Han Gyul Shares Thoughts On Why He Has A Lot Of Older Fans + Debuting Again As H&D
In a recent interview and pictorial for The Star magazine, Lee Han Gyul talked about H&D’s debut and his career thus far.
After posing for his first-ever solo pictorial, the singer commented, “I’d hoped to pose for a solo pictorial someday, so I’m happy that I was able to make that start with The Star.”
H&D—a duo consisting of Lee Han Gyul and his former X1 bandmate Nam Do Hyon—recently made their official debut, and Lee Han Gyul expressed confidence in their new mini album “SOULMATE.”
Explaining that the album showcased their versatility, he remarked, “There’s a lot of fun elements and a wide variety of genres, including upbeat, exciting songs; sad songs; and songs that give us the chance to look cool.”
Lee Han Gyul went on, “In the lyrics of our title track ‘SOUL,’ there’s a line that goes, ‘Let out the soul that’s been holding its breath.’ I think that you may actually be able to see my soul come out while I’m performing.”
Lee Han Gyul also commented on the fact that his fans tend to be on the older side, remarking, “In the past, the percentage of my fans who were in their thirties or forties was really high, and there was even a time when 70 to 80 percent of my fans were in their forties.”
As for why he attracts so many older fans, the idol mused, “I think I have a slightly mature charm. In any case, I’m always grateful for whatever reason my fans like me.”
Lee Han Gyul’s road to stardom has certainly been an eventful one. Not only has he appeared on more than one survival show (before Mnet’s “Produce X 101,” he first competed on KBS’s “The Unit“), but he has also debuted multiple times. Years before he joined the “Produce X 101” project group X1, he first debuted as a member of the boy group IM in 2017.
Although he has finally found fame, Lee Han Gyul shared, “I still don’t think I’ve achieved my dreams, so I want to continue to challenge myself. Just because [the audition programs are over] now doesn’t mean [the challenge] is over yet.”
He went on to declare, “I want to climb as high as I can possibly go, and I have faith in myself.”
Finally, when asked about the happiest moment of his career, Lee Han Gyul talked about the unwavering support of his loyal fans. “It’s when I think, ‘There are still people who are continuing to cheer me on,'” he replied. “Thanks to their support, I want to continue promoting and try everything I can.”
