Watch: ASTRO's Cha Eun Woo Sings BTS's "Boy With Luv" + Lee Seung Gi Sings His Debut Song On "Master In The House"
The cast of “Master in the House” had a blast singing karaoke!
On the May 17 episode of the SBS variety show, the members spent a memorable day with their newest master, Shin Seung Hoon.
Before meeting the legendary singer, the cast first gathered at a small theater. When the staff mentioned that ASTRO had made their comeback the previous day, Shin Sung Rok showed off his knowledge of the group by naming the title track. Congratulating Cha Eun Woo, Lee Seung Gi added, “There are many comments online saying that the show has gotten more fun after Cha Eun Woo joined.”
Looking at their other new member Kim Dong Hyun, Yang Se Hyung joked, “Then what does that make Kim Dong Hyun?” Shin Sung Rok saved the situation by commenting, “It feels as if Kim Dong Hyun has been with us all this time.”
Before revealing his identity, this week’s master gave the members a list of items to buy at the grocery store. Due to time restraints, the staff went grocery shopping on their behalf, but told the members they needed to score over 90 points on a karaoke machine while singing songs from the master’s playlist in order to win the food.
The first song on the list was Seo Taiji and Boys’ “I Know.” Shin Sung Rok confidently asked, “Is there anyone who doesn’t know this song?” However, he only scored 85 points, and Yang Se Hyung poked fun at him by asking, “Isn’t [Shin Sung Rok] good at singing when he does musicals, though?”
Yang Se Hyung then sang Cho Yong Pil’s “Leopard of Mt. Kilimanjaro,” but received only 35 points. The third track was BTS’s “Boy With Luv,” and Kim Dong Hyun made everyone laugh with his attempt to sing the song. Fortunately, the cast was saved by Cha Eun Woo, who successfully completed the song. The cast scored a whopping 100 points for their cover of BTS and got to select a cooler as their prize. Unfortunately, however, they were unlucky enough to choose an empty cooler instead of one with food, leaving the cast with only one more chance to win food.
Lee Seung Gi stated, “I’ll get a score of 100 no matter what if I sing my own song,” and Yang Se Hyung suggested, “If you don’t get 100 points, pay for our team dinner.” Expressing confidence in his skills, Lee Seung Gi chose his 2004 debut track “Because You’re My Girl.”
Yang Se Hyung became nervous after seeing how seriously Lee Seung Gi was singing the song. The singer-actor, however, scored 97 points and sighed when he saw the results. In contrast, the staff and Yang Se Hyung let out cheers and made everyone laugh.
The staff revealed, “All of the songs that appeared so far are songs that were No. 1 for an extremely long time. The master is someone whose song was No. 1 for longer than these songs.” Shin Sung Rok smiled as soon as he heard this hint and said that he knew who it was.
The master turned out to be none other than Shin Seung Hoon. When asked about being called “the nation’s singer,” he replied, “It’s an expression that a reporter used in a column. He wrote that if his wife, mother, daughter, and sister-in-law all like me, then I could be called ‘the nation’s singer.'” He then joked that this title no longer applied to him because young people these days don’t know who he is.
Shin Seung Hoon then wowed the cast by taking a stroll down memory lane with his many hits, including “I Believe” and “Your Smile in My Memory.”
