WINNER's Kang Seung Yoon Talks About Overcoming Public's Preconceived Notions + Goals For Next Chapter Of Their Story
In a recent interview and pictorial for Elle magazine, WINNER’s Kang Seung Yoon talked about his motivation as an artist and his goals for the future.
The singer-songwriter first entered the spotlight 10 years ago, on the Mnet audition program “Superstar K2.” In the 10 years since, he has consistently shown growth as an artist, taking on a variety of genres and conquering new obstacles every step of the way.
When asked about his evolution as an artist, Kang Seung Yoon—who is famous for his remarkable work ethic—revealed that part of his motivation to work so hard and constantly strive to improve himself stemmed from the desire to show the public what he was capable of.
Looking back at the early days of his career, he recalled, “Because people had such a strong image of Kang Seung Yoon as an unpolished kid who plays the guitar and makes rock music, they also had this preconception that that was all I was capable of. I wanted to show those people [that they were wrong]. I thought to myself, even if I can’t be perfect, I should at least work hard enough that people don’t say I’m not good. So I kept working hard and trying to improve [as an artist].”
As for what he hopes to achieve in the next 10 years, the WINNER leader shared, “I’d like to successfully open the second chapter of WINNER’s story on a good note.”
He went on, “If, in our first chapter, we focused on showing off the synergy between the four of us, I’d like for us to also highlight each of our distinctive colors and individual brands in the future. In the next 10 years, I’d like to become more ambitious, not only for WINNER as a group but also for me, Kang Seung Yoon.”
