The military musical “Return: The Promise of the Day” (literal title) has been postponed indefinitely due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
Production company Insight Entertainment announced the decision on June 15 and wrote, “Although we had tried in many ways to hold the musical, including postponing the premiere date, we have come to the decision that it will be difficult to hold the musical as planned with the growing number of COVID-19 cases in the Seoul metropolitan area and the government’s announcement on June 12 to extend stronger measures in the Seoul metropolitan area against COVID-19. Therefore, we will be indefinitely postponing the musical.”
They continued to state, “We are sad to be sharing this news as we know you have waited for the June 16 premiere, which had already been postponed once. We sincerely apologize for postponing the musical once more and causing confusion,” and, “We ask that everyone continue to stay alert against COVID-19, and we will do our best to make sure our musical can return. Until the day we meet again on stage, we hope that everyone will stay safe and well. Thank you.”

“Return: The Promise of the Day” is an original army musical that deals with the topic of excavating the remains of the heroic soldiers who sacrificed themselves to protect their country during the Korean War. The cast includes EXO’s Xiumin and D.O, Yoon Ji Sung, FTISLAND’s Lee Hong Ki, INFINITE’s Sungyeol, Kim Min Suk, Lee Jung Yul, Lee Jae Kyoon, gugudan’s Kim Sejeong, and Lee Ji Hye.
The musical was originally scheduled to run from June 4 to July 12. However, production company Insight Entertainment made an official announcement on May 30 that the premiere date will be postponed.
They wrote, “On May 28, the government made an announcement regarding a resurgence of COVID-19. In accordance with government measures to temporarily halt the operation of multi-purposed facilities in the metropolitan area, we have decided to postpone the premiere date,” and “We will be canceling the performances that were originally scheduled to take place between June 4 and 14, and the premiere will be postponed to June 16.”
They concluded their statement with, “Once our musical is able to commence, the cast and crew, Army Headquarters, and Insight Entertainment promise to work hard to repay everyone with a great performance. Most of all, we promise to operate the musical with the health of the audience, cast, and crew as our utmost priority.”

Along with the premiere being postponed to June 16, the second round of ticketing, which was originally scheduled for June 1, has been delayed to June 4. Tickets for performances from June 4 to 14 will be refunded.
Korea has seen a rise in COVID-19 cases recently, and after daily confirmed cases rose to 79 on May 28, the government announced stronger measures to combat the pandemic, including temporarily halting the operation of multi-purposed facilities in the metropolitan area.
