Hidden Camera Found In KBS Restroom Sparks Police Investigation
A police investigation is underway after a hidden camera was discovered in the women’s restroom inside a KBS building.
According to the Seoul Yeongdeungpo Police Station, they received a report on May 29 that an illegal recording device resembling a portable external battery was discovered in a women’s restroom. The police have since removed the device and begun an investigation into the matter.
The building in which the camera was found, which used to be an apartment complex, is said to be where the practice rooms for the cast of “Gag Concert” are. On the day the camera was found, the cast of the show had gathered to hold a final rehearsal before the show goes on hiatus. The building in question does not have CCTV cameras installed in the hallways or near the bathroom entrances, so police are working on analyzing footage from the CCTV camera installed near the entrance of the building.
Many KBS employees are lamenting the discovery as they share their thoughts anonymously online. “At a place that produces media, at the KBS headquarters of all places, a hidden camera was found in the women’s restroom and the police were called,” one employee wrote. “After analysis, the camera was found to be not a realtime transmission device, but a storage device. As a member of KBS, I feel ashamed and disgusted.”
According to police, if they find a suspect, the person will be booked for charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes, and evidence will be secured.
A source from KBS stated, “We intend to actively comply with the police investigation in order to find the culprit, and we will implement measures to prevent the recurrence of such an incident.”
