KBS Releases Official Statement Regarding Recent Hidden Camera Incident
KBS has issued an official statement concerning the recent hidden camera incident.
On May 29, an illegal recording device resembling a portable external battery was discovered in a women’s restroom inside KBS’s research building. The police have since removed the device and begun an investigation into the matter.
On June 1, the suspect voluntarily appeared before the police for an investigation. The police investigated the suspect on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes.
Chosun Ilbo reported that that the suspect was a male comedian who debuted after passing KBS’s audition in July 2018. KBS has denied the reports, saying that they never heard anything about it from the police.
The official statement from KBS is as follows:
We will do our best to prevent the recurrence of the illegal recording device incident.
We acknowledge the gravity of the fact that illegal filming equipment was discovered in KBS’s research building, and we have prepared and implemented measures to prevent this from happening again.
In addition, even if the suspect of the case is not a KBS employee, we feel great responsibility regarding the situation in which one of our cast members is being mentioned in recent reports.
KBS is well aware of the importance of special protection for victims along with the arrest and punishment of criminals in cases of this kind. Therefore, we have not only reported to the police immediately after discovering [the equipment] and cooperated actively with the investigation, but we are also taking measures to prevent the recurrence of the issue and prevent secondary damage to the involved parties in order to relieve the anxiety felt by our employees.
Immediately after the incident, we urgently inspected the main building, new building, annex, and research building and confirmed that there were no problems. We’ve also launched a full-scale investigation of women-only spaces in our regional divisions. We are also preparing measures to prevent the recurrence of the issue, including supplementation of security equipment, such as CCTV cameras, and strengthening of access procedures. We are also providing counseling and support, and we soon plan to relocate offices close to the location where the illegal camera equipment was found.
Once again, we stress the importance of thorough investigation and punishment so that secondary damage does not occur in the process. We feel responsible for this incident and promise once again to do our best to prevent the recurrence of the issue and secondary damage.
