Yoo Jae Suk, Lee Hyori, And Rain Take MBTI Personality Tests To Check Their Group Chemistry

On the June 13 episode of MBC’s “How Do You Play?”, Yoo Jae Suk, Lee Hyori, and Rain’s quest to form the co-ed dance group SSAK3 continued.

In this episode, the three members took MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) personality tests to check their group compatibility, held rap auditions, and selected songs through a blind process.

Yoo Jae Suk met with Joo Young Hoon, the ’90s-era hitmaker who produced hit songs for Turbo, SoBangCha, Sung Jin Woo, Im Sang A, Koyote, and Uhm Jung Hwa. Yoo Jae Suk said, “You have to join our project. You have to pick our group concept for us.”

Joo Young Hoon replied, “If you’re going to recreate the ’90s summer sound, the music has to be bright. I spend a lot of time working on the introduction. The people listening have to go ‘ohh’ as soon as they hear the introduction.” He picked his favorite tempo as 130-140 BPM (beats per minute) and said, “This tempo makes people excited.”

Before SSAK3 could pick a new song, however, “How Do You Play?” PD Kim Tae Ho asked the members to take MBTI personality tests. The MBTI categorizes personalities based on whether they favor extraversion/introversion (E/I), sensing/intuition (S/N), thinking/feeling (T/F), and judging/perceiving (J/P). Rain got ESFP, Lee Hyori got ENFP, and Yoo Jae Suk got ISFP.

According to their results, Yoo Jae Suk was told he tends to procrastinate, lacks determination, doesn’t like meeting people but plays well when he does meet them, has trouble saying no, is good at yielding to others, hates causing harm to others, has trouble saying that he doesn’t like something, and is weak in a verbal argument.

Rain was told that he tends to get lethargic if he stays too long at home, that he likes to seek and receive attention, is the type to be remembered by his fellow students and colleagues, feels bored being by himself and is always doing something, and no matter what might be on his mind, he only thinks about it for a little while before falling asleep.

Lee Hyori commented, “Kim Tae Hee must get frustrated,” but Rain said, “I control myself and do housework and childcare.”

Lee Hyori was told that she is optimistic and happy-go-lucky, is often part of the “in-crowd,” gets along with her friends and likes being with other people, isn’t afraid of forming new relationships, is good at focusing in the moment and therefore gets good results even on deadline, has a lot of emotions and expresses them easily, is ready to say what she likes or dislikes, but lacks the patience to repeat the same things day after day.

Lee Hyori joked, “If we don’t finish this soon, I might quit in the middle.”

According to the MBTI results, Lee Hyori and Yoo Jae Suk had the worst chemistry. Lee Hyori said, “We’ve always worked well together before.” Lee Hyori and Rain also had the worst chemistry, but fortunately Rain and Yoo Jae Suk’s chemistry was not.

Lee Hyori said, “If the three of us went to a deserted island, Yoo Jae Suk would sit under a palm tree and look at the sunset, Rain would call his friends and annoy everyone by starting a party, and I would start a movement to save the shark population.”

The three members then held a rap audition among themselves to see who would be the best rapper.

Finally, SSAK3 reviewed some potential songs through a “blind selection process.” The first song, “Cool 42,” was based on Lee Hyori and Rain’s joke that they could have dated when they were in their twenties. The second song was called “Summer Night,” and the third song was called “MBTI.” The fourth song was “ORE ORE,” and the fifth song was composed by the composer of one of Yoo San Seul (Yoo Jae Suk’s trot persona)’s songs.
