MBC Confirms Plans To Hold "2020 Idol Star Athletics Championships" Chuseok Special Without An Audience

MBC is preparing for the upcoming “2020 Idol Star Athletics Championships.”

“Idol Star Athletics Championships” is a special program in which idols participate in various sports events. Fans of the participating groups are invited to be part of the audience, and they are able to enjoy some time with their favorite idols.

Previously, MBC stated that whether or not the program would take place was still under discussion. On August 4, MBC confirmed that they would be moving forward with the Chuseok special of the “2020 Idol Star Athletics Championships.”

Due to concerns regarding the spread of COVID-19, the upcoming show will be filmed without an audience. Meetings between the idols and fans, which occurred in previous years, will not be taking place. Instead, MBC is looking to find a safe method for fans to communicate with the idols while enjoying the show.

Furthermore, MBC will be setting up diverse precautionary measures such as social distancing between the participating idol athletes during the preparatory period before the event and enlisting a highly prepared medical team.

The new “2020 Idols Star Athletics Championships” will continue events that don’t require personal contact such as archery and eSports, and the show plans on establishing new events that will reduce contact between the athletes as much as possible.

The production team shared, “With thorough preventive measures, we will place the safety of the cast and staff as our top priority, and we will do our best so that everyone can participate in the events with ease of mind.”
