T-ara's Ham Eun Jung Talks About Acting In Plays, Possibility Of A T-ara Reunion, And More
T-ara’s Ham Eun Jung participated in a photo shoot and interview with fashion magazine Woman Sense!
Ham Eun Jung debuted in 1995 as Little Miss Korea, and she has been in the entertainment industry for 25 years. She made her debut as an idol in 2009, and even though group activities are on hiatus, the group recently celebrated their 11th anniversary. Currently, she is working as an actress.
First off, Ham Eun Jung gave an update on what she’s been up to, saying, “I’m preparing for the play ‘Les Misérables.'” She expressed her hope for the audience to see her like they’re watching a T-ara performance and said, “Looking back on my career as a member of T-ara, I put all my energy into it every moment. There are still many people who are familiar with T-ara’s Eun Jung. So it will be perfect if they think I’m a person who never changes and works hard. Of course, it doesn’t mean that I want to stand out on stage alone. I think the harmony and teamwork of the ‘Les Misérables’ cast are the most important thing, so I’m putting all my efforts into becoming one with them.”
When asked if plays are her biggest interest nowadays, she replied, “Yes, I’m immersed in preparing for the play these days. I’m having a lot of fun researching everything about ‘Les Misérables.’ It’s fun to reinterpret existing characters into my own style. That’s why I won’t be able to give up on stage acting even after this is over. The fact that I can be seen in real time and live in a completely different era is particularly attractive to me. It’s fun to talk to and exchange opinions with the production cast and crew while preparing for the performance. I’m glad that I became part of a play.”
Ham Eun Jung also talked about her views on love. She said, “In my 20s, when I talked about my love life, there was a heated debate among my friends. But it’s different now. We can listen to concerns as much as needed, but we can’t give advice right away. I realize that problems in relationships need to be solved by the couple themselves. Naturally, my ideal type changed as well. Now, I like relationships where we both can naturally permeate into each other’s lives. Intense love where we throw everything on the line is a little tiring now.”
Then laughing, she added, “Do I have any thoughts of dating? I’m not lonely right now. I don’t want to stay single for a long time, but I think this is the time to work. There are so many fun things besides dating.”
Furthermore, Ham Eun Jung mentioned what it’s like to enter her thirties now. She commented, “I feel secure. I couldn’t control my personal feelings well in the past, but I can control my emotions now. I feel more responsible for my actions. The same goes for work. I work with both young staff members in their twenties and older people with more experience. I feel responsible for playing the role of a bridge between the two generations. When there are barriers to communication, I want to understand their positions and solve them so that they are not embarrassed or uncomfortable. I’ve never thought about this before because I was busy working. Regardless of their job or age, I feel the importance of people as time goes by. I like these changes that are taking place within me. So I’m more satisfied now than when I was in my 20s.”
When asked about her biggest motivation, Ham Eun Jung replied, “It may sound obvious, but my driving force is my fans. I get very excited quickly when I think of them. I feel like I’m loved, and I become really happy. They’re the ones who support me. I’m grateful to them for everything, but I’m mostly thankful of the fact that they’re always there for me. Honestly, I think relationships with fans is like being in a romantic relationship. So sometimes, everything is smooth and happy, but other times, we may have a falling-out. Nevertheless, I’m surprised and grateful that the form of love is always maintained. While working, I sometimes struggle with the idea that I’m alone, so I hope the fans know that I can endure everything because of them.”
The interviewer mentioned T-ara’s reunion, and Ham Eun Jung said, “It was our 10th anniversary last year, and I’m sad that we couldn’t do anything special. We continue to receive many offers to reunite, and the members often discuss about the perfect timing for it. All of us want to reunite, but we’re in different circumstances, so it’s difficult to make it into a reality. But I still want to show you something as soon as possible.”
Then she added she wants T-ara to show a completely different image than before. She said, “We want to start off with an image that makes people go, ‘You seem mature now,’ and then we can summon the original T-ara later on. Don’t you think that sounds fun?”
Lastly, Ham Eun Jung discussed her goals for the remainder of the year. She shared, “The play ‘Les Misérables’ begins in August, so my primary goal is to finish that successfully. After the play, I think I can greet fans again through dramas or movies. Personally, I want to have a chance to meet my fans quickly. There are a lot of overseas fans in China, Japan, Vietnam, and more, but it’s hard to directly meet them right now due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So I’m going to try to communicate with them online. Please wait a little longer.”
