Som Hye In Talks About Aspirations For Acting, Dealing With Malicious Comments After Coming Out, And More

In a recent interview with news outlet Xportsnews, Som Hye In opened up about various topics including her future dreams, life after coming out, and more.

Last August, the former contestant of Mnet survival show “Idol School” revealed that she was bisexual and shared a picture with her girlfriend at the time.

Som Hye In started the interview by sharing what she’s been up to lately. She said, “These days, I’m refraining from going out because of COVID-19. I usually spend time at home watching movies, YouTube, and Netflix. I like to go to pottery workshops or exhibition halls, but these days, it’s hard to go out because of the current situation, so I’m doing my best to find things I can do at home.”

She added that she is attending acting school in order to prepare for her official debut as an actress. She revealed she really wants to try the role of a psychotic and commented, “In reality, there isn’t any reason for me to go that crazy, so I want to express it in acting. When acting, I think I can understand situations or characters that I can’t understand in reality because it’s all pretend. I find that interesting and charming.”

She also shared her passion for movies, saying, “I personally like independent movies. I like the short and impactful way those types of movies unravel the narrative. I like that they deliver the narrative in a short amount of time, helping the viewers easily understand. Since it’s hard to go out these days, I like to stay home and watch movie after movie.”

Som Hye In made her official debut as a singer last year by releasing her mini album “Mini Radio” and single “Same Here.” However, she shared she won’t be doing any activities as a singer for the time being. She explained, “The truth is, I started my career in the Korean entertainment industry with the dream of becoming an actress in Japan. Originally, I had no intention of becoming a singer. However, I was able to become a singer through a good opportunity. I am very grateful for that. But now I want to create a career as an actor and achieve my dreams by slowly learning about acting.”

Then she commented that her favorite singer is IU, saying, “Personally, I love ‘Love Poem.’ I really like the way IU speaks directly through pretty and lyrical lyrics without beating around the bush.”

Som Hye In also candidly talked about the breakup with her ex-girlfriend she was previously revealed to be in a relationship with. She explained they decided to go their own ways, saying, “We were close before, but not anymore. Rather than breaking up for a special reason or because of a conflict, we just ended up going our separate ways through a very natural process. Now, both of us are doing our own things in our own spots.”

In a previous interview, Som Hye In revealed she decided to come out because she didn’t want to hide the fact that she was dating and in love like everyone else, and she also warned malicious commenters she would take legal action against them. When asked about the public’s reaction to her coming out, she replied, “Even after I explained myself in interviews and my Instagram posts, those who saw me in a negative light only saw and heard what they wanted. No matter how many times I spoke, the negativity continued, so I just stopped caring about it altogether.”

She continued, “They may be attacking me to hurt me, but I don’t care because I don’t have any intention of getting hurt. However, I plan to punish malicious commenters who go too far by attacking my family. I’ve already personally hired a lawyer, and I’ve filed dozens of complaints.”

Then she added, “I told my lawyer that I want [the malicious commenters] to write a letter as a part of the settlement. There was nothing more I could ask for. Some people wrote the letters with no sincerity. So I emphasized that they had to fill out an entire sheet of printer paper. Of course, even when I did that, many people didn’t show sincerity.”

Som Hye In also shared, “I’ve grown independently from a young age, so I’m able to control myself. I don’t depend on others, and I usually lead when I’m in a relationship.”
