Girls' Generation, BTS, And Red Velvet Make Billboard Staff's List Of 100 Greatest MV Artists Of All Time
The staff at Billboard have released their picks for the greatest music video artists of all time, and three Korean groups made the list!
On August 27 local time, Billboard released its “The 100 Greatest Music Video Artists of All Time: Staff List,” which recognized 100 of the artists who they thought had “given the most to the music video” and “have made the music video eternal.”
37. Girls’ Generation
Girls’ Generation claimed the No. 37 spot on the list, with Gab Ginsberg writing that the legendary group “set the standard for impressively-choreographed Korean girl group videos (as well as the importance of eye-catching outfits and props).” In addition to mentioning their iconic music video for “Gee,” she recommended that readers check out the cinema-inspired video for their Japanese song “Paparazzi.”
52. Red Velvet
Red Velvet made the list at No. 52, with Andrew Unterberger lauding them as “one of the most consistently imaginative music video acts in contemporary pop, with inspired and brilliantly executed concepts that prove quickly unforgettable.” He went on to name their music video for “Red Flavor” as the group’s “MTV classic,” writing that it had “such loving reverence (and almost interpersonal respect) for fruit that it might even make you feel guilty the next time you add a couple strawberries or banana slices to your morning cereal.”
74. BTS
Finally, BTS came in at No. 74 on the list, with Jason Lipshutz praising their music videos for producing “visuals that make fans shriek with joy in a post-TRL world, often finding a balance between individual member showcases and impressive group choreography.” He also highlighted their music video for “Not Today” as a standout, describing it as “one of the group’s more eye-popping visual experiences.”
Congratulations to all of the artists that made the list!
