3 Times Lee Do Hyun's Fatherly Love In "18 Again" Has Brought Viewers To Tears

Lee Do Hyun’s performance as a father in “18 Again” is bringing tears to the eyes of many fans!

Based on the American film “17 Again,” “18 Again” is about a man on the brink of divorce who suddenly finds himself back in the body of his 18-year-old self. Yoon Sang Hyun plays the older version of the protagonist Hong Dae Young, and Lee Do Hyun plays the teenage counterpart who goes by the name Go Woo Young. Kim Ha Neul co-stars as Hong Dae Young’s wife, Jung Da Jung.

The show has been touching viewers with its moving portrayal of family love. One of the highlights is the emotional scenes that focus on Hong Dae Young becoming a father at the young age of 18, as well as later taking care of his children even when he becomes their classmate Go Woo Young.

1. “Dad is so sorry.”

In the past, when Jung Da Jung was pregnant, Hong Dae Young’s father (played by Lee Byung Joon) had told his son that getting married in high school would ruin Jung Da Jung’s life, which had made Hong Dae Young unsure about whether they should keep their babies. However, he got a call from Jung Da Jung and when he ran to her, she told him that she couldn’t hear the twins’ heartbeats. He sobbed as he looked at the ultrasound screen and said, “I’m sorry. Dad made a mistake. Dad is so sorry.” Many viewers began to cry along with him in the heartbreaking scene.

Soon after, the twins’ hearts began to beat again. He said through a narration, “Life always puts the weight on what’s the most important. Even if that weight makes us give up a lot of things, nothing could be more important than these babies. That’s how we became parents.”

2. Sacrificing on rainy days

On a day in the past when the rain was pouring, Hong Dae Young had gone to pick up his twins from kindergarten. He said in a narration, “You can tell the size of a person’s love when it’s raining. Even if you use an umbrella together, you can clearly see the size of a person’s love by looking at the slope of it.”

Hong Dae Young continued to let himself get wet in the rain while protecting his twins with his umbrella, and the scene was overlapped with him doing the same as Go Woo Young for his daughter Si Ah when she’s in high school. The beautiful portrayal of the weight of love being represented by the slope of an umbrella brought many viewers to tears.

3. Caring for his sick daughter, then and now

When Si Ah passed out due to cramps she’d developed because of stress, Go Woo Young carried her on his back and ran as fast as he could. He then didn’t take his eyes off her out of worry.

When he saw a mother at the hospital who was holding her sick baby and feeling sorry, he was reminded of himself in the past, bringing Si Ah to the hospital when she was ill. Unsure of what to do, the young father had cried and just said, “Dad is sorry.” No matter his young age, Hong Dae Young had ached because his daughter was sick, and the father’s ardent love for his daughter had viewers reaching for the tissues again.
