'Search' And 'Start-Up' Premiere To Strong Ratings As 'Lie After Lie' Sets New Channel A Record

Two new dramas got off to promising starts last night!

On October 17, OCN’s “Search”—a new mystery thriller starring f(x)’s Krystal and Jang Dong Yoon as soldiers in the demilitarized zone (DMZ)—premiered at the top of its time slot. According to Nielsen Korea, the first episode of “Search” scored an average nationwide rating of 2.6 percent and a peak of 3.2 percent, drawing a significantly higher number of viewers than its predecessor “Missing: The Other Side,” the drama that previously occupied its time slot (which premiered to an average rating of 1.7 percent).

Among the key demographic of viewers ages 25 to 49, the premiere of “Search” scored an average nationwide rating of 2.2 percent and a peak of 2.7 percent, taking first place in its time slot across all cable channels.

tvN’s “Start-Up”—a new drama starring Suzy and Nam Joo Hyuk as dreamers chasing success in the South Korean version of Silicon Valley—scored an average nationwide rating of 4.4 percent and a peak of 5.0 percent for its premiere. The drama also scored an average nationwide rating of 2.9 percent and a peak of 3.3 percent among the key demographic of viewers ages 20 to 49.

Meanwhile, Channel A’s hit drama “Lie After Lie” continued to make history for the network as it remained No. 1 in its time slot across all cable channels. The latest episode of the suspense-romance drama returned to its all-time high of 5.8 percent nationwide, which set a record for the highest viewership ratings achieved by any drama in Channel A history. “Lie After Lie” performed even better in the Seoul metropolitan area, where it broke its own record for highest drama ratings in Channel A history with an average of 6.5 percent.

JTBC’s romance drama “More Than Friends” also returned to its own all-time high in viewership with its sixth episode, which scored a nationwide average of 1.6 percent.

In the public broadcast network realm, SBS’s “Alice” scored average nationwide ratings of 6.1 percent and 8.6 percent for its two parts, while KBS 2TV’s “Homemade Love Story” remained the most-watched drama of Saturday night with average nationwide ratings of 20.7 percent and 25.2 percent.
