JYP Issues New Statement On Allegations Against GOT7's Youngjae After Meeting With His Accuser
JYP Entertainment has released a new statement on the bullying allegations made against GOT7’s Youngjae after meeting with his accuser in person.
On October 20, someone posted on an online community claiming to have been a victim of school violence perpetrated by Youngjae during his time at Mokpo Technical High School. Multiple Korean news outlets pointed out factual inconsistencies in the post, such as the claim that the author was in the same class as Youngjae in their second and third year of high school, when Youngjae had actually transferred to a high school in Seoul during his first year in order to prepare for his debut with GOT7. The post in question has since been deleted.
The following day, JYP Entertainment released an initial statement explaining Youngjae’s side of the story and announcing that they had reached out to the author of the post in order to verify the details of their claims.
On October 22, JYP Entertainment released a new statement after meeting with the author of the post in person, asserting that the accuser had not been able to provide any evidence to support their claims and warning that they would be taking legal action against the spreading of false rumors about their artists in the future.
JYP Entertainment’s full statement is as follows:
Hello, this is JYP Entertainment.
We are making a statement regarding the controversy related to our artist Youngjae.
We met with the individual who wrote the post about Youngjae, and although the author of the post made claims that matched what they had written online, they were unable to provide any evidence to support their allegations that school violence had taken place.
In regard to both this incident and other cases, we would like to inform you that we will be taking firm legal action in response to libel, the spreading of groundless falsehoods about our artists with no material evidence, or additional rumors.
Thank you.
